Asperger Syndrome Support Group
Asperger syndrome - also referred to as Asperger's syndrome, Asperger's, Aspergers or just AS - is one of five neurobiological pervasive developmental disorders (PDD), and is characterized by deficiencies in social and communication skills, normal to above normal intelligence, and standard language development.
I'm just at my braking point. I feel so hopeless and alone. Everything just feels so hard. Relationships are nearly impossible for me to form or maintain im so tired of trying to. Worst of all I'm tired of all of the painful memories from before my diagnosis. All of the bullying and peer rejection. All of the one sided friendships. I remember in elementary school being the person no one ever wanted to be with. I remember in middle school the peer rejection continued and the bullying. I can recall being depressed and often staring out the window in class most often just wanting to go home. I remember being told I just needed to talk to people no one understood it was never just that easy. I remember in middle school gym class not being the last picked but not even picked at all. I remember all those days in high school walking alone through the hallways because I didn't have any friends to walk with. Even here no one wanted to work with me if they did they did reluctantly. What made it harder was that I ended up growing up with undiagnosed depression and anxiety to. I was left to believe that constant sense of sadness and greyness I felt was just a normal part of me and that anxiety was just apart of my personality. I have difficult memories of often feeling sad and not knowing why. I knew I was different for years and learned about autism in middle school and began to suspect I was but didn't know how to communicate that. I realized I was showing signs for years but no one noticed. I feel like all of the adults in my life were either oblivious that anything was wrong or were in denial about the whole thing. I just feel like my life has no purpose or meaning. Being autistic made me a much more independent thinker then some of my peers which made being raised in the Catholic Church very hard and likely contributed to my depression because I just couldn't fit in with my Catholic peers and struggled to just conform to what the church taught me. Being Catholic I was told that god had a plan for my life everyone around me seemed to have some intuitive knowledge of what gods plan was for there life but I never did. I feel like I've missed out on so much in life dating friendship sex (as early as high school some kids were loosing there virginity) strong family relationships I even struggled to maintain relationships with my family even my cousins I couldn't maintain relationships with. I remember I was so rule oriented I didn't experiment with alcohol as a teenager like I heard alot of people did. I just feel like I've missed out on my life like it's already been lived. Like I missed out on all of the normal things other people did.

It's been some time since my last post...sorry. I've been going through a challenging time with the sale of my home, purchase of a condo and my adult asperger son that lives with me. I've had days where I couldn't get out of bed, days where I stayed in my pj's and days where all I managed to do was eat, drink fluids and take care of my Sweet Mia kitty. Sweet Mia came to me from a shelter about...

If I come to DS and it won't do anything when I click "Login", I go to a post, click and then click "Leave a Reply". Then it will let me log in.Of course, sometimes DS just goes to "Error 504". Then I can't log in.

He was on medication after medication for adhd, anxiety and depression but nothing changed the fact that he didn't fit in. He doesn't drink, smoke or use drugs either, due to being scared Straight by the DARE program in middle school.
He is now 27, to my knowledge never kissed a girl, has no friends to call and go out with and works 3 days a week as a dish washer. He lives in a supervised apartment with a room mate.
I know I make him mad trying to get him to 'move' and think more about his future...do you have motivation? He really has none, and would be quite happy with his hobbies, online games and he does have a group of online friends. He doesn't drive and I've told him if he wants to move back home when his time is up, April, he will need his driver licensee and a 4 day a week job, part time as he gets social security.
He is a kind person, when you meet him, you'd never know he had aspergers..I told him to look at the bridge of the nose when talking to people. We went to church, he was an usher which did give him some self esteem boost, but eventually I couldn't get him to go to church.
I know what you mean about God Has A Plan...well I was given my son at the age of 43, I'm now 70 and I do believe God gave me John to keep me going as all my family is gone. I'm a single parent, so when I go, my son won't have anyone. I worry a lot about that.
I know I haven't really addressed your issues of feeling left out and alone, all I can think is to find something you are interested in and then seek out like minded people, maybe at a meetup.com...I guess I just want you to know that you are not alone.
Hugs <3
Remember one thing, and I tell my son this, you have a choice to focus on what you want or what you don't have, what you can do and what you can't do, or don't have.
How you think effects how you feel and your motivation. You never know, I never thought I'd have a child and didn't until I was 43.
I worked in a place for 25 years, but never really felt like I fit in or was in an inner circle with groups that went out together...but I did go out sometimes with them and I did have fun....what are your expectations? If you expect people to understand you, they won't unless you let them 'in'...and good for you working! I'm glad you have that, getting out of the house and a routine is So Important, and to give you self satisfaction...do you give yourself credit for getting up everyday and doing your job and living your life...lots of people don't have or do that so ^5 to you :)
