I found the book very helpful. A very easy book to follow. I think you're doing the right thing to give your boyfriend space. He knows you're there. When someone with Aspergers is a better head space I find they are happy to come back in, but when they're not they tend to ignore communication. It's important to understand their emotional patterns. I think that's key and not to take anything personally, because their behaviour is not personal to us; it's how they cope.

I feel conflicted at times because when he isn't being quiet, he is VERY emotionally supportive and loving... when he's not there it's like he's gone and usually something about me is bothering him but he doesn't know how to tell me. He likes it during these times when I text him loving things. He just doesn't text back because he doesn't know what to say.

People with Aspergers are very conflicted in their own heads, but they have hearts of gold, so when they're coping and their world is good at that point, they can be very emotionally supportive and loving. The problem we have dealing with them is that we never know where they are in their head, so we're not sure what we're going to get back. I can understand you being conflicted, because it's very difficult to know where you stand. You want to be supportive, but you also need support back and that's not always easy for them to do. It's also easy to put scenarios in our head when the separation happens, not easy to completely understand why; but know it's not about you. It's all about how they handle themselves. I love your attitude. You clearly care for your boyfriend and want to help, which I absolutely love.

I just split for the second time with a GF that I really care about. She was more of a caring person that I ever have had in my life. I believe that I had a few issues with her and one was that she seemed to want to fix me or be critically detailed of the past when she never actually heard what I was saying. At times I communicate as a matter of fact with no feelings. just factual. her intercepting feeling or emotion out of my words would always be incorrect. All I can say is never make assumptions with us and talking and not texting is highly recommended. Face to Face is yea better.. I'm newly diagnosed with a 50 point self test, knowing all the side effects all to well. I'm 51 so I have known I'm different for about 10 years and my friends and some of my family knew maybe 5 years ago. I'm really at the fork in the road and as far as relationships I really know what I like but I have a really hard time finding it as I like to isolate and obsess on totally obscure things. I am leaning forward and looking for face time groups in Northern Ca if you know of any.
