Asperger Syndrome Support Group
Asperger syndrome - also referred to as Asperger's syndrome, Asperger's, Aspergers or just AS - is one of five neurobiological pervasive developmental disorders (PDD), and is characterized by deficiencies in social and communication skills, normal to above normal intelligence, and standard language development.
I don't know what to tell you; its scary, traumatizing, and life altering. Just go to therapy, find some meds that agree with you (be careful, though) and hope for the best. That or hope for parents and friends that are willing to strap you down to keep you from finding the family gun...
I meant to post this sooner. What's happening with your son sometimes happens to me, and used to really happen a lot when I was that age. I think it's Asperger's related; sometimes you'll just think about stuff (as an Aspie) and if it either doesn't sit well with you, can't figure it out, or something to that effect, it will make you feel bad.
We're, at least I'm not, completely aware of what's bothering me, but I tend to have a rough idea; it's just an "all is not right" feeling. It may not even be something so cerebral, he may disagree with things in his environment: not liking certain colors, patterns, people, weather, etc.
If you or a child has Aspergers, I would recommend keeping an eye out for signs of depression.
It's perhaps not inevitable, but there is link in the case of many people. I think your experience and the differing experiences of other people with Aspergers nicely highlights that we are individuals who don't all fit into a single profile. But I would still urge people with Aspergers (and parents of children with it) to be aware of the heightened risk of depression.
Fast forward to now: over recent years, my marriage has deteriorated to the point where my wife wants a separation/divorce; I've become so isolated/distant from her so much that the connection was lost; depression was always there but manageable..once she announced she wanted out, I went into a total emotional collaspe which led to (2) hospital stays, the development of T2 diabetes, and a suicide attempt (3) months ago. It's taken all of this time to realize I might be inflicted w/Aspergers - I can begin to understand why I was so empathetic, socially uncomfortable, not understanding other's jokes/humor, not keeping/developing friendships, etc. So much irreversible damage has already been done; now that I've crossed this epiphany, I feel I am just starting life from scratch - which at my age (45) feels like a daunting & horrific task, especially to now face alone..
I agree; there are so many different ways it can manifest in people, not all are the same.
