I am new to DS. I have a husband who is Aspergers and a son 4.5 who I had tested at 3.5 but no formal diagnosis- the guy said he sees all the traits and tendencies for a child with Aspergers and OCD however he is only 3 and will outgrow it.... UMMM not that I want my child to have anything going on but if you SEE things there how in the world can it just go away? That's so stupid! We have had a very bad year and I swear it keeps getting worse. Can anyone help me figure out a method that has worked?
His symptoms are: Never sleeps through the night. Separation anxiety disorder. VERY limited textured eater (gags often) Moody- lately acts like a pre-teen! Does not follow conversation (will answer fully off topic) He all the sudden has this need to chew EVERYTHING! When he was a baby he didn't chew on anything or put anything near his mouth an now I am constantly asking him to not chew on shirt, shoelaces, toys and most famously his cheeks and lips.... He is constantly smelling everything and has a very heightened sense of smell. He can hear someone's watch ticking over people talking in a room! He has crazy impulses but only when he is over stimulated with his senses- he will just take off running and to run after him is useless. Once he calms down (we get him in a secluded darker area or his favorite under a table) he cries for 1-2 hours saying he is sorry he didn't be calm (he has never been punished for it as we know it is not something he controls) and will tell us he couldn't handle hearing all the talking, different people moving/doing different things, bright lighting ETC. I don't have ANY idea what to do for him... He does need to learn how to handle the world... he will be in school next year and i am sure they will not take kindly to him just darting off when he is overwhelmed. HELP!

I find myself going places in the car and not wanting to get out of the car. I come back home and I don't want to get out of the car. I think it's the only time I spend reflecting. Chronic tiredness from Long Covid plus the immunosupressing meds for my Crohn's is slowing me down but everything just seems a massive effort. I am dealing with the paperwork following my father's death but it's not...

Wow, it's the middle of the week already!Today is our 11 year anniversary, so we're going out to a nice dinner. I'm losing a lot of sleep these days, hence a wonky schedule and uncomfortable feelings. But I know it will pass, eventually.I hope all of you have a peaceful day, and may good things come your way!

A year later and he's not grown out of it.
So I think the only thing to do is get him retested as there is clearly something up.
You either can try a different pediatrician or try contacting the school district. Your school district may be able to help you get him tested and diagnosed in preparation for him attending school. You need to tell them that you will be enrolling him for kindergarten this year but that you are concerned about where he will be placed as you have had these problems with him. You may be able to get his diagnosed free through the school system, or they may be able to direct you to an appropriate facility or practitioner to get it done.
Under a federal law called the Individuals with Education Act, the schools set up systems for helping gets with disabilities. In most districts now, there is a special office just for autism related disorders. When you contact the school district, you may need to ask for that office. Most school districts have a decent website and the contact information is listed on the website.
Here is a link to a site with info about resources and support groups in your state which you might find helpful:

Hope this helps and that things improve for all of you... hugs...
You might want to check to see if there is a pre-school or Pre-K they sometimes call it program he can be enrolled in rather than wait another year. He needs help this year, and you do need the support yourself, too. Parenting a child with special needs can take a helluva lot out of you. Better if you start lining up resources for him and for you this year.
Just my two cents....
