new to this support group... My hubby just had cardiac rehab. The fellow there stated: Now if you can do the fast walk and with the incline that is great Now with the new studies it shows if it gets the best of you then you should just walk with no incline plus if it is too much to walk 30 minutes to an hour then do 15 minutes 2 to 3 times a day or even every other day. In other words it is best to do a little bit then to do nothing at all. I know those that want to lose weight this won't help but it is great for those that just want to exercise so your not so stiff. We got a treadmill...started out at 1/2 mile a day for 2 weeks then to a mile a day for 2 weeks ... then to 1 1/2 mile a day. wow did I get a flare that kept me from walking about a month...So I did it again and the same thing happened. Well to make this story a bit shorter... I found out I can do a half mile twice a day to get a mile in with so much less pain that way... I will give myself some more time and will try to make it 3/4 mile twice a day. I have also learned that one day I can do the 1 mile and more but maybe not the next day so for me I feel it is better to do less everyday and not get the flares by over pushing myself. I do need a hip replacement and a knee replacement but I hate the thought of surgery. I have already had one knee replaced... but I really seem to have a terrible time walking outside but on the treadmill it is so much better... maybe it is because outside it is so un-level plus on the treadmill you are walking on a rubber belt too.
