Hi, I haven't been here for a while I had a TKR 4 years ago and found this site then. I am now trying to put off a my left knee. I am scheduled to receive Synvisc later this month. I tried it a few times for my Right knee and I did help for a while. Here is my question....
I discovered this summer I am allergic to Lidocaine which is a form of local anesthetic. Last nights trip to the ER after having a mole removed after receiving a different anesthetic called Bupivacaine gave me another anesthetic I am allergic too. I ended up looking like Will Smith in the movie "Hitch" when he ate shellfish. I have fat lips, huge ears, and when I had the reaction the second the second time my neck started to swell also. It's a cute look.
When I had my Synvisc injections years ago my Dr. also used Lidocaine to help the injection. I do not recall having a reaction to it then. We have been discussing not using the anesthetic in this round as each time I receive the local my symptoms get worse and worse. So that is a no go.
My questions are-
Can someone develop an allergy like this after receiving an injection with no previous reaction?
How painful is it to receive a Synvisc shot without any local anesthetic?

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
I could take penicillin years ago but can't take it now because I break out in welts in places I never knew I had.
One can develop an allergy at any time.
I've had Synvisc shots but with anesthetic so don't know how painful they are without using an anesthetic. I would say very painful but then if it helped me a lot (which it does) I personally would be willing to go ahead with the shots. I has Synvisc 3.
