Warfarin

Hi friends.
My dad has been put on Warfarin as he has irregular heart beat. He has got to go for a day tests at hopital soon. I am very worried about him. My Dad is 84yrs old. Is there anyone out there who can give us advice and support.

It is my understanding that warfarin is a "blood thinner". When you have an irregular heartbeat it can cause the blood to sit and not move as fast thru as it should. Because of this there is a risk of blood clots which in turn cause stroke. So, warfarin is a good medication for someone like your dad to take. You have to be careful and read about the side effects and drug interactions, but it sounds like the doctor did the right thing. Let me know how things go.

Warfarin is a blood thinner or anticoagulant. It is given to people who have irregular heart beats to prevent them from getting a stroke or pulmonary embolism(blood clot in the lung). Clots can occur easier when the heart beats irregularly.
