Arrhythmias Support Group

Cardiac arrhythmia is a group of conditions in which the muscle contraction of the heart is irregular or is faster or slower than normal. Some arrhythmias are life-threatening medical emergencies that can cause cardiac arrest and sudden death. Others cause aggravating symptoms, such as an awareness of a different heart beat, or palpitation, which can be annoying.

It seems that I cannot tolerate this beta blocker. Yes, it does help my heart rhythem but it makes me feel so lousy in other ways. I have low blood presure to begin with and it lowers it more leaving me feeling quite weak and unable to function. I also take Xanax for chronic anxiety (for many years now) and I decided to use the Xanax to calm the heart. It seems to be working!
Anyone else have problems with Beta blockers?

Only one thing bugs me about me taking beta blockers: My desire to do things have diminished (i.e. work outside in my yard, wanting to go on hikes, sex, basically no desire to do much of nothing). I've called it laziness in the past....what's it called now?

You are not lazy! It is the drug. I have spoken to many people on beta blockers and they all seem to say the same thing - no motivation to get off the couch to do anything. I can't stand that feeling. I am still using the Xanax and I am better able to function. I go to a new cardiologist today so I'll see what she says.

Thanks for saying I'm not lazy. I know I'm not. Instead of lazy, it's hazy! My life is now hazy. I have brain fog, too. I am so spacey. Unlike you Pegzo, I need to take it to keep my heart at bay. You have Xanax to help your ticker stay regular. But using beta blocker in combination with Xanax, is not good for you. At least you have it figured out now.... Happy beats :)

I know just how you feel, I have been taking beta-blockers for over twenty years. Xanax made it easier to deal with my arrhythmia`s but did nothing to help them. I had no choice but to keep taking the beta blockers and anti-arrhythmic`s to keep my HR down.
You should not stop taking beta-blockers all at once without seeing a doctor.

Good luck, living with heart problems and medications is not easy. You may have to try other beta-blockers to see if they work better for you.
