Arrhythmias Support Group
Cardiac arrhythmia is a group of conditions in which the muscle contraction of the heart is irregular or is faster or slower than normal. Some arrhythmias are life-threatening medical emergencies that can cause cardiac arrest and sudden death. Others cause aggravating symptoms, such as an awareness of a different heart beat, or palpitation, which can be annoying.
anxiousone I have been having the same thing and it's about to drive me crazy. I have had palpatations for over 20years. It use to be PVC's. They would come and go. I'm a 58yr. old female and I have always been in shape. I learned how to do the vagual manuvers and it would help. About aa month ago I started having different flutters. I went and had a stress echo, wore an event monitor, had EKG's. They all came back fine. My doctor did see some PAC's this time. He told me not to worry. Well I'm a paramedic and I guess i'm my worse patient. Since I'm so familar with alot of this I think the WORST. Although it really started bothering me when my B/P started going up and down. I couldn't understand that one. He wanted to put me on some cardizem but I didn't want it. He mainly did it to ease my mind I think. Well I'm back on an event monitor again because they come as soon as my feet hit the floor in the mornings. In my line of work stress is always a factor but that isn't the problem now. I went to the ER the other nite because I was so scared. EKG was fine and all cardiac workup was fine. Tryponon was fine as well. I don't understand it and hopefully will see him tomorrow. I'm not waiting 20 somethiing more days. I guess the B/P part is what is scaring me. If anyone has any input please respond. Hope you are doing better anxiousone.
If you're a believer in mind over matter, you have to try to remember that worrying never helped anyone, with anything. Again, I know how hard it is not to worry, believe me I do! But you basically have to decide that this is the new normal for you, and you have to decide that you no longer want this condition you have to rule your life, making you live in constant fear.
If you're not as much a believer in mind over matter, try figuring out what your triggers are. I'm sure they've already told you about caffeine and alcohol, but other things can trigger arrhythmias, like foods, vitamins, lying in a certain position, etc, and avoid those things. Also you didn't say whether or not you have ever had a sleep study done, but if not it might be worth looking into. If it turns out you have sleep apnea, that could be the cause of your arrhythmia. And sleep apnea is definitely treatable!
