Aphasia Support Group
Aphasia is a loss or impairment of the ability to produce and/or comprehend language, due to brain damage. It is usually a result of damage to the language centres of the brain (like Broca's area). Damage to these language areas can be caused by a stroke, traumatic brain injury or other head injury. Aphasia may also develop slowly, as in the case of a brain tumor.
I can certainly say that aphasia is very real, and I would advise that you seek speech therapy to assist with your challenging concern.
For your fiance, I would suggest some educational literature to help him to understand and be aware of such a sensitive speech and language disorder. This is no laughing matter.
It is embarassing, and like you, people think I'm faking it or something. I get that Broca's aphasia, like Word Salad type symptoms. My words come out backwards too.
I practice speech therapy on my own, by reading poetry and such.
