Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...

I know this has probably been discussed here already, but I am new here and just want some opinions.
Long story short....
I have suffered from anxiety, knowingly, for about 6-7 years. It started when I found out I had Mitral Valve Prolapse. After this, my anxiety went into major over drive. The heart palps started and that was all she wrote...it was down hill from there.
Fast forward to today.....I had my 5th child 5 weeks ago via c-section. This was my first c-section and the recovery has been a rough one. My anxiety is at an all time high. I can FEEL it in my body....my symptoms are horrible. Heart palps, sharp random pains all over my body, head fog, dizziness, tingling, and the list goes on.
I have Zoloft in my cabinet that my doc gave me months ago. I have a fear of taking new meds and that is why I have not taken it. I am at a point where I really feel like I need it, but the fear of side effects is keeping me from trying it.
So, any suggestions and/or opinions would be much appreciated.
How did you feel when you first started taking it?
How long did these feelings last?
Did the Zoloft help you with your anxiety?
Thank you in advance!!

Years ago, I won a mirrored armoire from my job. It's in my bedroom but I rarely stand in front of it. Yesterday, I had to have a dexascan done so I had to change into a gown. There was a full length mirror in the changing room. I'm aware that I gained 5 to 7 pounds over the last year from cheating on Keto but I didn't know what it looked like. It was a reality check.

"don't be a hate hole" has been one of my recent mantras which seems to be escaping my mouth more and more often. it emerges when i am faced with the endless list of chores i would rather not deal with. insurance. head lice. bureaucracy. in-laws. the list goes on and on and on and on, ad infinitum.reality checks requested. am i making sense?"ever'thin they is but loving leaves a rust on your...

I think I can empathize with your situation. I also feared the meds. Looking back I realized I have had GAD all my life, but it got much worse after my mother died when I was 16. I was not diagnosed until I was in my late 20's. By then I had been treated for depression only, when after a proper eval by a psychiatrist, I was diagnosed with GAD. I have three kids, so I understand that also. All that being said, I took Zoloft briefly and it made me very tired and very hungry. I ate and slept and gained about 20 pounds quickly. BUT, it affects everyone differently. I am sure your doc mentioned that, or you may have seen similar comments on the web. I have tried Prozac, and it made me very agitated. I lost tons of weight but I had restless legs, a constant low-grade headache, and I was the opposite of calm. I have tried Lexapro, and it works great but I walk into another room at home and forget why I went in there. That worries me. Also missing a dose causes dizzyness, crying spells, etc. It has harsh withdrawals. Cymbalta is the worst. It gave me nightmares. Withdrawals were horrible. After having tried Citalopram, I went back to Lexipro. I am now managing the side effects. Overall, it takes the edge off but nothing ever takes it all away unless it is an Ativan or Lorazepam and you are sleeping off your anxiety attack. I am still looking for the right solution for my anxiety. Trying to cut out caffeine? Meditation? Exercise? Different things work for different people. I know this isn't very encouraging, and I am sorry. It is a trial and error process to find the right meds. One big thing, though: make sure someone is monitoring you in case you start acting weird. You can't monitor yourself. I wish someone had been watching me more closely when I was on Prozac, Wellbutrin, and Trazedone all at once. I was not myself, and I made some very unwise choices that still grieve me. Make sure someone is monitoring you and making sure you're ok. Check back and give an update on what you decide to do. I hope you find that it helps and you feel better! Definitely try something. Don't be afraid. You are in good company. Lots of us have anxiety :)
Side affects are different for everyone but they did not give me any problems. If I were you I would check with doctor to see if it''s o.k. to start taking now. If you start taking them you will want to be able to get them refilled before you run out. You might also want to ask if they can give you something fast acting to help till the Zoloft kicks in. (Diazepam, Lorazepam, Xanax)
Good luck and hope you feel better soon.
Stay hydrated. When I experience anxiety attacks, panic attacks, depression attacks and I can't think of anything else to try, I sip on liquid, and usually within minutes, I find calmness returning.
I have generalized anxiety disorder, had it from childhood, not diagnosed until a few years ago. I have mild chronic depression. Birth of children, post partum depression...this one can really throw you for a loop, because you already have a raised anxiety level and you can experience depression thinking you're doing better. So, taking the time to know you are feeling different, may help you through the changes with the medicine.
I tell everyone Zoloft works on the worst symptoms fast, quietly, and with precision. It does not take all of it away in one scoop, it mixes up the combination effect so you can function normally.
It does work different on everyone. What you have to decide for yourself, no one else can do this, is what is the purpose you were prescribed the medicine for? When you are in the doctor's office and getting the medicine, what symptoms were the ones being described? By keeping this in front, you'll be able to help yourself continue to heal.
Best wishes, congratulations on the birth, and recovering.
