I am not a professional in any way, but I don't take too kindly to the idea that anti-anxiety medication simply "masks" the attacks. The very low dosage of Xanax or Klonapin that I take as needed (I actually cut my pills in half, too) help me to feel "normal" and get on with my day. I don't rush and pop a pill with every bit of anxiety I feel -- I use other coping mechanisms first. But sometimes, it's nice to know you have back-up if you simply can't take anymore and need a break. I'm so sorry you're going through this!
