General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. At the place I work the 'end of year' comes at the end of September. As part of the end of year process we are required to write an employee 'self appraisal' that highlights the employee's accomplishments and contributions to the organization over the past year. With low self-esteem and anxiety needless to say this has me in such a tail spin right now I am physically sick in trying to write this thing. The employee self-appraisal and the subsequent supervisory appraisal are the basis for raises, or lack thereof that will be given at the end of the year. I agonize over writing this thing. I hate writing about myself, hate calling attention to myself and fear that what I write will be dismissed, rejected or be overridden by what my supervisor writes about me. I was raised that you never boast about or call attention to the things that you do. Was also raised with criticism and belittling about my accomplishment, or lack thereof. Each year I go through this and spend weeks leading up to having to write this thing and put it off to the very end when it is due to be turned in to my supervisor. It get's so bad some times that there have been times that I have considered quitting my job rather than have to fill it out and face criticism and judgement. Just want to run away and hide and not have to face this stuff.

I did the dumbest thing today. I charged my earbuds, unplugged the block and put the block in my little bag instead of the earbuds. I wasn't happy about that when I got to the gym. What a dummy!

For the next year review, I'd suggest keeping a journal with at least one positive thing written for work purposes each week to make this process easier to cope with.
You are an excellent worker. Notes make it easier to describe in positive ways what you accomplish.
Best wishes. You are not alone.
my best advice is either find a friend who also hates the process and write about each other...orrrrrr pretend you are writing about this other "Waxer" person--describe your performance as if you were talking about someone else...even use third person---then go back in and make it personal--a few days later when you can handle it....
I think those self-assessment things are really done because your boss also has no idea what to write--so they get you to do it! lol
Everybody contributes at work, so everybody does positive things at times. Think about those things, how you contribute, when you've used teamwork, when you've gone above and beyond. And it will come out as concrete evidence of your hard work. Good luck!!
