I have severe anxiety and I was put on Paxil about 5 or 6 weeks ago. I have a lot of side effects such as: Vivid Nightmares, restlessness, I feel like I'm in a fog sometimes like I am losing touch with reality. I am not sure whether to get off it or not it doesn't really seem to help my anxiety at least not yet anyway. I am losing a lot of sleep and I go in and out of depression. I have some family members say stay on it and others say get off of it. Should I just stay with it I feel like I'm going insane I don't know what to do. Does anybody have any advice? Or been on Paxil?

If you have been on the medication for as long as you say then I would contact your doctor and tell him you want off because the side effects are not going away and there are little to no benefits. Usuaaly side effects will go away after a week in they are going to go away. Also the type of medication paxil is takes about 6 weeks to fully have its effects.

I agree with Matthewca. If the side effects persists than contact your doc

Yep, contact your doc as soon as you can, those kind of side effects should have passed by now, but don't get discouraged, Paxil may work really good for someone else, but not for you, SSRIS are like that. They just need to find one that works for you without harsh side effects. ask him or her about Zoloft. It's the one, statistically, that has been prescribed the most for anxiety. Doesn't have harsh side effects, easier to get off of when the time comes, and your doc can start you on a small dose and bump you up in doses, so you won't experience bad side effects. Have a good weekend, and don't let it get you down, just a minor setback. You'll find one that works good. :-)

Your doc may just need to lower your dosage, you didn't say.

A good docter will change your medication after a couple of months if you are not having any improvement. Good luck.

Paxil has really been helping me with my anxiety/depression, but I needed a higher dose than the one originally given. I do have the nightmares though. I wish you the best of luck!
