The other night for the first time, I woke up from a dead sleep. And was in total panic mode. I was convinced I was having a heart attack. I dont remember getting up. I just was in the middle of my kitchen feeling like I was going to pass out. Nothing like this has ever happened to me before. My left arm was really hurting. Maybe I was sleeping on it wrong. But I guess that;s why I thought that I was having a heart attack, Oh yeah, and I felt like i couldn't breathe. What the heck:???"???

Yeah that happens to me also. I will freak because I will have all the symptoms of a heart attack but if I make myself calm down it will pass. I hate those. I am sending you a hug. Just hang in there.

I've had that happen a few times. I freaked out so bad I even called 911. They came and checked me and I was fine. It was a bad panic attack. Its crazy how your mind can cause panic even from sleep. It's scary. The 2nd time this happened to me I did go to hospital to get checked. Same results. Now I have learned to relax and calm myself before running to call 911. And I have been fine every time after it passes. Hope it doesnt happen for you again!

Hello Komom, I want to say that waking up like that can be very frightening. I use to wake up like that alot, I am so glad I found out what was causing me to wake that way. Panic and anxiety can do alot of things to our bodies and our minds. Some are real and some feel real. I was talking to my therapist one time about waking in the middle of the night having panic attacks. I told him my heart would race and I couldn't breathe and I felt so scared but wasn't sure what I was afraid of. He told me panic will not wake you out of a dead sleep. I am not a doctor so I don't know how true that is but I do know he told me to check with my medical doctor about having a sleep test done to see if I had sleep apnea. Sure enough I have sleep apnea. I stopped breathing 77 times an hour. I had 23 episodes of shallow breathing and 12 episodes where my brain did not tell my lungs to breathe. I am not saying you have sleep apnea but it may be something to look in to. Since I have been treating my sleep apnea my panic and anxiety have gotten somewhat better. I have more energy now and don't feel as tired or hurt as much as i use to. Good luck to you and I hope you feel better soon.

I've had those attacks as well. It feels absolutely horrifying when you wake to an attack. You are not alone!
