Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...
I would strongly suggest visiting with your school counselor if possible. Share what you're going through and how it's affecting you. Perhaps an extension for a due date could be requested by the counselor.
My best friend in high school had a sister that found great help in the school counselor. It's my hope you will, too.
Often times teachers are hardest on their favorite students in order to develop their fullest potentials. Could it be that this teacher likes you more than you know and sees you as a potential superstar?
Just wondering. . .
So, or no, I'll second the notion of visiting your school counselor to help you ease the worry. Even superstars need counsel to help them sort the confusions of life.
I hope you'll also feel safe venting freely here. Venting freely helps sort the riff from the raff while helping you to know you are not alone.
Listening. . . Welcome aboard.
Approach the counselor with a question about how to work out a problem with a teacher quietly about an assignment.
The counselor may or may not share with the teacher, and it will bring about a change that will help you learn skills in managing situations like that that will come up in the future.
Your teacher may see the situation in a different way than you do, and obviously, you are hearing the words spoken. Some teachers deal with anxious students based upon their previous experience, which will not be effective in improving your work in this class.
Speak honestly with the counselor about the 'feelings' you have about what the teacher is saying, and I think you will have a positive connection with the teacher.
Best wishes as you find your better balance.
I just knocked their socks off with getting an "A" in their class.
Guess they couldn't say anything bad about me then, huh? :)
Do your best to ace this class. Then the teacher will look at you differently.
Also, it might be the teacher does like you and they are dealing with their own personal issues and taking it out on certain students. I think the pandemic, and some having to teach virtually, and the online classes, has put teachers on edge and stress. Try not to take it personally. Maybe even go up to the teacher and ask if there is anything you can do to help ease their class load ("kill 'em with kindness"). They will probably appreciate your kindness.
I never cared if teachers liked me or not. You will never see them again after this class. Good luck! You can do it.
I'll cast another vote for being honest with your counselor, along with the addendum that requesting she stay out of the fray is a reasonable request. Most counselor know that it is always better their clients to handle these things on their own. They are there to guide, not decide.
At least now I only have to deal with my chaotic family. T0T
Thank you everyone so much. It feels so good to be able to have some support.
I'm impressed with the teacher, too. Mistakes happen and owning up to those mistakes is a sign of character this old war horse salutes at every opportunity.
Healing happens. Glad it happened to both of you.
