Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. Glad to hear you have found a psychiatrist. A therapist is probably your best bet and hopefully the pdoc will refer you to one right away. I would hate to see you go down the path of trying this drug or trying that one to find the right "cocktail". It's a long road.
Sometimes a therapist can help you by getting to the root of the problem and learning other methods of controlling it instead of drugs.
I was on klenopin for four years and it was the only thing that would control the anxiety. The last 6 mos I was on the maximim dosage. Two weeks ago it quit working. I was in a full blown panic attack so went to the ER. They gave me Ativan.
That was two weeks ago. The Ativan has, for now, completely stopped anxiety and racing thoughts, but because I was so exhausted from the anxiety for so long, that now I'm just plain depressed.
I just met with my therapist today. Together we're going to try to figure out a way for me to recognize the signs before I fall off that cliff into panic attacks.
Will the Ativan keep control of the anxiety? Only time will tell............ it's another benzo............and another drug. Some work, some don't. Some stop working. It's a vicious circle.
But I do suggest that you find a good therapist to help you get to the root of it before you get lost in the nightmare of meds.
