General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...

Started some CBT therapy and the psychologist doesn't think I need meds right now, and my anxiety/panic attacks seemed to tapered off bit, but as you all know it's moment by moment, because I still feel a little detached from my surroundings.

yeah i feel that man! i started CBT on my own for my agoraphobia. it definately works, but it is a hard ride sometimes. aobut a month ago i couldnt even step onto my front porch. now i drive myself to therapy and at night i can make trips to the local convenience store, so yes it can and does work. to be frank though i understand that a month is pretty quick for as big a turnaround as i made and i'm on st johns wort as well which is what made it so fast for me

YES!! me! listen to what your psych is saying as far as the CBT. try it. it does work, but will take time. mine actually wanted me to stay on my med longer (as a temp crutch,) but i chose to go off it after 11 weeks therapy, and that worked for me. i still go to counseling. if you're not comfortable going off your meds right now, take it slowly. decrease a little when you're ready. CBT takes some practice, and quitting meds introduces a second factor. i think you should call the shots. you know how you feel, and when you're ready. don't set yourself up for failure. everybody is human here, and can only give their best guess.

It absolutely works. Exposure without meds has the best success rate for people with anxiety disorders. We need to learn to not be afraid of the panic attacks to put it simply. That is how we stop panicking. Being scared of a panic attack causes them to happen.

I never did formal CBT, but doing it myself was how I beat anxiety. Gradual exposure and changing my thinking was all I needed to do to change my life.

It works well. I agree with everything iloverabbits said too. I was doing CBT for 6 months and it exposed me to my fears and exposed me to things that i was avoiding. It took a while but the gains were amazing.

The best thing that helps is talking to others that understand how and what your feeling. That with the help of meds is what got me through everything. It really don't matter if they are a profressional as long as they really and I mean really understand what going on in your head. I look at it this way. This is a battle. Talking to others is like dicussing the battle plan and the meds are a weapon used in the battle to defeat the enemy. For me I won the battle but I'm not getting rid of the the tools I used to win because the war will never be over and can't be won. The minute you let down your guard it might attack again.
