Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...
Every person reacts differently to drugs, including OTC.
I heard about Seraquel and that it helped people sleep.
I begged my pdoc to Rx Seroquel and she Rx 100 mgs. It works although it takes about 3 hours until I become drowsy enough to sleep.
Side affects: causes hunger. I have to be really careful not to overeat. I keep fresh fruit in my bedroom and kitchen.
Drowsy in the morning. Yes, I still feel fatigued but at least I can get between 3 to 5 hours (on a good night 5 hours) of sleep. Otherwise I can't sleep for days and days and that causes me to 'lose it.'
25 mg is a small dose. Your doc wouldn't give you a Rx if he/she thought it was dangerous. Seraquel is relatively new to the insomniacs of the world.
You will know of any side affects pretty quickly. My pdoc actually prescribed 200 mg but that was way too high...I tried less than 100 mg and that left me Sleepless. I tried 150 mg and that made me feel weird. For me the magic number is 100 mg.
Good luck.
Don't worry TOO much. I took S-quel for about a month. The only side effect that really bugged me was the fatigue. I was SO groggy in the morning and dragging my butt throughout the day, I finally quit the stuff. But that was pretty much it except for a little tightness in my chest. Oh, and extra weight gain for sure! It took the rest of the edge off the anxiety for sure though!
25 mg is a VERY low dose - my doc had me on 50 and she told me she's known people to take up to 800 (good grief, how do they get out of bed??)
I really like my Klonopin for helping me sleep/reducing anxiety. I don't get addicted to it, it works quickly when I need it, and my mind stays clear on it.
Regarding the dose you are on, I left my last pdoc because he was stuck on prescribing the "standard" dose. He put in his notes that I was reluctant to take meds because I wasn't taking the standard dose of any of my meds, and had just reminded him of my history of side effects. Of course I was reluctant! I didn't trust his judgment! He put me on drugs that made me more depressed than ever, made me turn orange (liver affected), gave me migraines, made me vomit... Of course I was reluctant! He wanted to increase my dosage of a med (Lamictal) that made me bruised all over from bumping into things. My current pdoc got my loyalty and trust when she said what I already know: different people need different doses of different drugs. In the meantime, I'm working with my therapist to train my brain to be able to get off the drugs!
You will be sleepy the first few weeks but eventually your body adjusts. When I first started taking it I had to nap. It relaxes you a lot.
I started on 25mg and had to nap, but now I'm take 150mg in the morning and afternoon and 100mg at bedtime. My body has adjusted.
I have gained a lot of weight taking it, but I can't stop taking it because it works too well. Be careful what you eat and try to exercise. I've only just started swimming again.
