Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...
Last year, around this time, I had to take a friend shopping. I really didn't want to do it. I had my own crap to do and I had to clean the passenger side of the car, which was pissing me off. I cried almost all the way to her house. I guess that released toxins because as we were in Walmart, I began to feel sick. This morning, my best friend got testy with me. She is immature and doesn't like when things don't go her way. Last Saturday, I told her that I couldn't go to yard sales because I have a hair appointment. She kind of talked me into going. I've been trying to figure out how to do this and get to my appointment with my stickler brother. He runs a tight ship. I cannot be late. I was really anxious about this. I am also anxious because I have to finish cleaning my old car out so that my brother and I can detail it. Now we have to do that tomorrow afternoon because it's going to rain on Sunday. I stayed up late last night watching testimony in a murder trial and didn't get enough sleep. So, just like last year, I felt sick. The feeling was in my stomach. I was also not in a pleasant mood. I finally started feeling better this afternoon as I thought about having coffee after work. So back to my best friend, she thought I should cancel my appointment and schedule a different appointment during the week. I said that I couldn't cancel last minute. She fought me on that. She kept saying "whatever". I have a standing appointment every five weeks. My brother has enough "no shows" and cancelations. He doesn't need me to screw him over. So nothing more has been talked about but I want to bomb out on the yard sales. Ugh! Thank God some Kindergarten girls came in from recess to hang out with me. They think it's a big deal to sit at my desk and two can fit but there are always others trying to fit on the chair. Anyway, thanks!

I haven't written in my diary on my computer since May because I thought that my computer was dying. I got away from writing but my computer is hanging in there. I think that I will start writing in it again. It's so therapeutic.

But I kind of apply that to other areas of my life too. Like no can make me do, say or feel anything. What I do or say or feel may be in reaction to someone but ultimately I’m responsible for what I do, or say or feel. Otherwise I’m simply handing over my autonomy and agency to other people.
Get comfortable with calmly just saying no. As they say, no is a complete sentence.
But there have been times I’ve agreed to do something because it felt like the path to least resistance. But in actuality I just felt resentment. It took me a long time to time be comfortable with saying no. Being a people pleaser from childhood, I put myself in situations that I’d agree to because I didn’t want the other person to be mad or upset. Now I recognize they might be in their feelings about me saying no but they’ll actually live.
I had a friend like that, too. She was demanding and impossible to please. Always angry with me. After years of putting up with the emotional abuse from her, I finally terminated the friendship. I think I wrote about it in my post about eliminating toxic people from my life.
Just remember that taking care of yourself and your own needs isn't selfish. Putting yourself last and always prioritizing other people can cause a lot of unwanted problems to stack up in your life. In other words, other people's problems will end up controlling your life. Wishing you wellness, peace, and balance. Hugs
