Proof unavailable, but I think I am holding steady as I manage my social anxiety through the frightening process of breaking politically mandated isolation. I am managing my anxiety of further maskite politics shutting us down again under "Future Anxiety." I don't **get** to predict how deeply that law-loving crowd will be offended by our indecently exposed smiles. Let go and Let God.
Today's meditation read from "Meditations for People Who Worry" seems especially pertinent to that theme. Just sharing. . .
When my mother worries about me, I feel disrespected, like I can't really handle things myself. ~Karen
One of the most important gifts we can give another human being is the gift of respect. Respect is not in high demand nor is it in great supply these days.
Respect is honoring another person's being, whether we like it or not, and recognizing his/her right to be that way. Rspect is an awareness of differences that welcomes their experience and anticipates being enriched by them. Respect is not about allowing other people to be who they are. It is the recognition that one does not have the right to approve or disapprove of another. We can have our feelings about what others do, and we do not have approval to give.
Respect is the awareness that others have their lives to lead and that each of us has a personal relationship with the Creator that does not need to be mediated.
When others, especially our children, deal with life differently than we would, or have stressful situations to face, we can respect them by assuming they have everything they need to handle that situation.
I still can't hear nor read lips through a mask and still believe children, especially socially marginalized children such as my foster children, need to socialize with other children, despite senior citizen vulnerability to flu bugs, but. . . Respecting as best I can. Works in progress. . .
