"resentments mark the places i see myself as a victim." ~anon
the depression which has accompanied the 5 year mark of the tragic start of my second parenting career has progressed to where i am recogizing the resentments of its necessity. i can easily claim victimhood in the loss of my second son and his wife. well? ? ? the romantic couple was divorce waltzing at the time of the accident. i probably would have lost the DIL anyway and still find it hard to miss a woman who called me, "monster-in-law." but losing my youngest son still feels like unmitigated victimhood.
the list of resentments goes on, but i am venting freely elsewhere and don't feel a great need to list them here. the piece i am reaching for here is how to make peace with resentments. how to keep those resentments from eating holes in my soul. i theorate that harboring those resentments is a significant part of my depression.

the makeshit family feels like it is still holding an even keel. the busy summer is drifting into its final weeks. august 13 hails the start of the new school year. my depression has remained in the background enough to allow me to keep on taking care of business. most of it, at least.

I haven't written in my diary on my computer since May because I thought that my computer was dying. I got away from writing but my computer is hanging in there. I think that I will start writing in it again. It's so therapeutic.

Years ago, I won a mirrored armoire from my job. It's in my bedroom but I rarely stand in front of it. Yesterday, I had to have a dexascan done so I had to change into a gown. There was a full length mirror in the changing room. I'm aware that I gained 5 to 7 pounds over the last year from cheating on Keto but I didn't know what it looked like. It was a reality check.
One of the hardest parts of grief is finding the middle ground to stand fast when the storms are rolling round and round.
I am making a hash of all this but resentment is kind of like envy, we want or don't want what it is that we think we should have. You will never feel happy that your son and DIL died and you will always remember and love, memories and feelings.
Life is difficult at times, arfie. Dr Laura on the radio said it once, "we endure."
For some reason our souls came to this life with these people to learn something. I don't know why life is so hard except that for human beings like if often just flat out hard. We grieve and we love and we soldier on.
Resentments seem almost to be a punishment of one’s self for not making the right choices. “I should have done this or could have done that.” Sometimes your decisions did affect the outcome and sometimes you are reaching to take the blame that is not yours to take. Resentments lead to guilt, frustration, bitterness for me. The active resentments (choices I could make to change my current life) are what eat me up the most. I try hard to let go of the blame and I try to accept my past decisions. Maybe it’s accepting some sort of fate that we are meant to suffer and we just need to learn to breathe, carry on and forgive ourselves for being human.
Is depression just trouble finding the purpose of life and the will to carry one? I’m rambling…
