Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. I got married aug 2012 and bought a fixer upper home nov 2012. We had to gut the whole house and try and put it all together before we had to move out of the place we were living. We got screwed over by 3 sets of contractors and didn't meet our deadline. We had to move into an unfinished house and now almost a year after moving in we are still in a construction zone.
We fight all the time and don't spent much time together. We do have a date night once a week though.
My husband is now the one doing the work since we don't want to pay anyone to mess up anymore. He doesn't want help from my family and when I try to help he yells at me the whole time or wants to talk about what we are doing instead of doing it. I feel like I'm a distraction when I help and he gets WAY more done alone. I try to do my part by picking up. (He hate when I move his stuff and gets mad when he can't find things). So I don't pick up much and I CANT handle the mess. I hide upstairs when I'm home because I have no where to even walk. We have no furniture and moving boxes and tools everywhere. It has been like this for a year.
I am trying to be patient and understanding. The only time I get upset about the situation is when he gets mad a stupid stuff that usually happen because of our living situation. I know he works hard I just feel like he forgets it's hard on me.
When the tools are out of the house I plan on taking over and picking up the disaster and making it look like a home. That will be his break. Maybe that's no fair but I'm not a man and he gets mad I'm physically not capable of doing the things he needs help with. So then we fight and I just gave up helping.
Sorry for the long back story but I'm afraid this is hurting out marriage. We fought before but now I feel so much distance between us. Is it the house? Will it get better? Will it fix itself? The only upside is after this I think I will be able to handle little things that come up since I have had to deal will so much fighting that will seem like a break.

Do you think anxiety is genetic or comes from your environment? What are your thoughts?

Many of you know Mr K told me to "shut your mouth" in March 2025 when we took a road trip to Alpena Michigan. Since that time, we have had lots of ups and downs but I have never intentionally hurt Mr K in anyway. And when we first started dating in 2024 he let me know, although he is an engineer by degree, he has an extremely low EQ. Overall, he is ok (not off the charts nice like other guys in...

I don't mean to sound so negative or alarm you, but I think going to counseling to learn how to communicate would go a long way to help making you a stronger couple that can withstand any stress that life throws your way.
I tend to agree with Blue that you may want to consider therapy - if your husband will go. If he won't go you may benefit from it on your own because you will have someone to vent to and you will likely get pointers on how to communicate with your husband in a way that gets him communicating as well.
I do hope you can work out your issues. I would love to know that one day your home will be complete and your marriage is still intact.
Take care
can you take a few days off and go somewhere? just to remember what its like without the tools and mess? that may help you get a better read on the issues and maybe you can leave the stress behind for a bit....
also--I bought a fixer upper--and I just did one room completely so I could feel normal and somewhat relaxed while the rest of the house was a mess----can you do that?
also--rent The Money Pit and watch it with your hubby--I watched that in the middle of my mess and I laughed till I cried....
