Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...

Hello Friends,
I am a member of your board, posting occasionally and have had general anxiety disorder for years. My anxiety at times manifests itself into physical as well as mental symptoms. For example, bouts of heart palpitations, muscle twitching, fatigue, obsessive thoughts, coinciding with depression. I have had episodes of feeling as if I am going to go completely blank, my mind feels so overwhelmed with an odd feeling of the inability to function, even though I carry on ok, it is a terrible feeling of unease. When I get that, I pace, clean, sort, like a crazy person and just can't relax at all. The symptoms always go away, thank goodness, but always reappear at some point in time. This cycle confuses doctors.
I also have been diagnosed with a idiopathic immune disorder, with neuropathy in my feet, lower legs, and have migraines on occasion, so some of my symptoms could possibly be related to that. I am not on medication, but do have Xanax to take as needed. I do not find the Xanax to help me much. A few doctors have stated some of my symptoms almost appear to sound like a form of rare epilepsy, however my family dr. that has treated me for years does not agree on that. I have had EEG's that are normal. With all said, it appears that anxiety can present itself, as many other disorders, as I am sure you all are aware of.
However, I come to you today with a scary symptom that I have been experiencing. Upon falling asleep I have been experiencing random unclear racing thoughts that jump around in my mind. I might be thinking of something, then that thought jumps to a different thought. Then I start to feel anxious and try to recall what I was thinking of, but none of it makes sense. With that an extreme uncomfortable uneasiness comes over me. I just lay there unable to sleep, and unable to stop the racing random thoughts. Of course then the overthinking about it, makes it all the worse! I get so anxious I just get up and do something to try to end the pattern. Getting up and doing something helps some, but comes with a price, no sleep! After time, I do fall asleep, but the disturbance often appears upon my wakening too.
After I am up and about, I do carry on, but feeling uneasy, anxious and very conscious of my thoughts though out the day. My days normalcy does not flow normal at all. I do believe that my worries of it, causes it to get worse U think, what if it's this, that, or never goes away...
Do any of you have similar symptoms? Do the racing uneasy thoughts upon falling asleep sound as if it could be anxiety? Can thinking about it make it all the worse. If so, do any of you know what causes it, or how to treat it?
Thanks you for reading and for your input.

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
"I am going to let you in on a little secret.......all of our issues with anxiety and depression are caused by out thoughts. "
This was told to me by a psychiatrist about 20 years ago. The only problem was...is that she never gave me any tools to overcome these thoughts that were keeping me in this condition. This, my friend, took me about 15 more years to find and implement so that I could rid myself from both of these lovely habits I had created for myself.
Friend me of you would like to access the week by week tools that use CBT to overcome anxiety and the resulting depression. I have been free of these habits for over three years now....you can too!
My best to you!
I completely know how you feel. I have found that, when I lay down at night is the first chance I have where I am not actively trying to get things done and so my mind tends to wander. Some nights it does it, some nights it doesn't.
It's like I let my body rest, so my mind goes wild. I feel like I can't shut it off sometimes. Personally, I take a Valium at bedtime which usually helps me settle down and go to sleep.
There are however those nights that I just cannot stop thinking. When that happens, I usually turn on some quiet music on my ipod or, worst case, play a simple little game ( I like the games like Temple Run and such) on my phone while laying down. Doing something repetitive while I'm laying down seems to distract me long enough to fall asleep. The only problem is I can't always find my phone the next morning haha
You're not alone! I have heard good things about Adventure Guide's week by week posts, and I am about to start going through them myself!
