Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. Hi,
im writing on here hoping that someone out there can help me understand and figure out a way to help my dad.
He suffers from panic attacks and has them quite frequently and has been unable to get them under control. Lately he hasn't been feeling great (not due to the panic attacks)and has been visiting the doctor with much persuasion and fights between him and my mum, (such a mission to get him to see our doctor who he has been seeing for around 26 years) and the doctor is concerned that he may have cancer and recommended he go straight to hospital, however my dad refused due to his panic and says that he can't go to the hospital due to the panic he feels. Please could someone help me understand and also is there someone out there who suffers with the same and has any tips or suggestions of anyway I could talk to him and maybe change his mind, this is tearing our family apart. Thanks in advance.

Hello- I am new to the group
-
My therapist really knocked some sense into me last Friday about my spending. She said that there are needs and there are wants. She said that there is always going to be cheap stuff to buy, but do I need it? The answer is mostly "no". So today, I am taking back some things that I bought online at Kohl's, namely a 9 x 12 rug and a quilt for my bed. I also bought sheets that I don't need...
I hope you do get some advice. I'm pretty certain from what I have seen that you will get lots of help.
Good luck.
Lots of love
One major way to help a panic naturally disappear is to stay hydrated, so get him used to having liquid either in form of food or liquid to use immediately when the first sensation happens. Next, use gentle motion to release tension naturally ( foot-tapping, finger-touching, small things to help break the panic physical sensation). Then, use calming words, gentle words, kind words, and soft touch to help him move. The more he finds balance in the panic, the easier it will be to walk the rest the way through it.
You are doing a wonderful job helping him with this.
Also, when it comes to hospitals, take him for a tour (we did this, and helped work through a memory of ...).
Best wishes!
Im so sorry to hear about your dad. I was going through the samething except i was going to the hospital. My panic attacks was so bad I was having them in my sleep. I seen a therapist and psychiatrist. I was on 2 differents antidepressant 3 antiantixey.. How I got through it was through prayer, will to fight and my kids! See your father is scared of having another and waiting for another to come because of fear of having another one bracing himself for it.. I stop waiting and let them happen. Hes has to figure out a way that can top waiting for them. Its days where its rough but I got through them and he will too. I having them like twice a week maybe three.. but im no longer seeing the therapist and psychiatrist.. I no longer take antidepressant.. He will get through this too!
My panic attacks came from the health scares I've been having.I have had 2 pulmonary embolism Im on blood thinners for life. I have had two biospsy done within 6 months to rule out cancer and every 3 months to check my thyroids nodules.
I know how the possibility of him having cancer can take a toll on you father! And that can be another reason he's having panic attacks.
Tell you hang in their with your dad! He need you more then ever! I hope this helps!
You and your father are in my thoughts and prayers! xoxo
We don't know what sets them off and unfortunately he likes to be alone when he's having them so not sure I could help him during an attack.
