Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...
Sorry long rant. I think my stress from multiple angles of my life is making me freak out. So it's been over a year since I finished my orthodontics and I only wear partial retainers at night. I had decided to do orthodontics as an adult and elected invisalign stuff. My teeth weren't horribly crooked but I was self conscious of how my front teeth bucked out for my entire life. It was something I could finally afford as my mom was never really able to provide proper dental care. Even with medicare she didn't always take us to the dentist and I had so many cavities and silver caps through the years. When I was in college I was able to get some student insurance and get all the last 8 cavities she never took me in for finally fixed. I sure hope that all the cavities I had repaired were honest and necessary. (My anxious skepticism). So as you can imagine all the drilling and numbing shots I've done I hate the dentist.
Anyways orthodontics and moving teeth and pain I had no idea was going to send my anxiety through the roof. Honestly there were times I wanted to quit. Not sure if anyone is familiar but you basically change these teeth trays weekly to gradually move your teeth and you are supposed to wear them 22 hours a day and only taking them out to eat and brush. It was stressful with my job to do this and when the pain was too much and my teeth would feel so loose at times it would freak me out and send me spiraling. The orthodontist would sometimes slow me down to changing every 2 weeks and so the whole ordeal lasted like almost 2 years and I had to switch orthodontists mid way because the first one retired and all patients moved over. Thankfully we got moved to a good office. In the end I got what I originally wanted but not sure it was worth the cost and torture.
I tend to clench my teeth at night and so my retainers had a bunch of cracks after not even a year. I was worried they wouldn't last so I had them make me new ones with thicker plastic. I tried to wear them and they were hurting one tooth and so I went back to my old retainer which is about to break in half and finally got back to orthodontist for appt about the new retainer. I feel like he doesn't want to make me new ones so he tells me to just wear them all day for a week and then just at night and I should be fine! So I did start on Monday night and I feel all my teeth hurting like I'm back to moving my teeth and all the anxiety is back. I'm not happy. I woke up in the middle of the night with pain and I'm like this was supposed to be over and just be retainers. I took them out and now don't want to put them back in but I can't call the orthodontist until they open. If I don't put them back in it creates a yoyo effect and that's not great either.
This makes me want to scream. I honestly don't know how people do wire braces. My anxiety would of had me in tears constantly and it was bad enough with the invisalign stuff.

Now that I am not talking to my whatever best friend, I realized that her life is full of drama. I had grown tired of hearing her stories about her boyfriend many months ago. She basically had been monopolizing conversations for that long too. She pretty much stopped asking me questions about me. I passed her in front of her classroom the other day and didn't even look at her. I am...

Does anyone here have a comfort item you carry with you when you go out? For example this is my doll, Annie, and I've recently been bringing her with me when I run errrands flor have an appointment. Holding her comforts me. I've bought her clothes, crocheted for her, I recently bought a personalized blanket with her name on it. Just wondering if anyone else has a comfort item.

I tend to think anxiety would be fairly normal about the pain and all the dedication it takes with your nighttime retainers. I don't know if my sister kept up her nighttime retainers but I know she did have them.
I hope you can work out something that is manageable to you. Some of us have sensitive mouths (I do).
I could not do it again.
I have had that dream multiple times in my life where all your teeth start falling out. Hate that dream.
I could not do the braces thing that my sister did but she is very vain. Now I look at her teeth which went back to crooked and just think what a waste.
The metal wire would stick at the side of Your mouth.
The wire would get stuck in Your gum's........which hurt like hell.
I wore the mouth retainer, didn't
really do much, I still have a bit of an overbite.
The retainer wasn't nearly as bad as the braces, all You do with the retainer is take it out when You ate, no big deal.
Never caused me any anxiety though
