Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...
Hello -
I'm new to this group.
I've struggled with Anxiety on and off for the last 7 years or so (I've also been on and off of medicine throughout that time). I'm 26, soon to be 27 and this last stretch has put me down really hard. I didnt work for 2 weeks, was depressed (first time ever), lost about 15lbs (which i really shouldnt have lost) and was afraid to do anything. This has been extremely hard on my boyfriend, whom I live with, as he has never had feelings of this kind and doesnt know what to do to help me.
I started a new medicine called effexor along with buspirone that I'm taking daily. I want to be more holistic and not take medicine but right now, but I'm accepting that its ok to say that I need the extra help and that medicine is ok right now. I'm now back at work which is good. Everyday is different. I'm good when it comes to routine and so being back at work seems to be helping.
I'm seeing a counselor, just had my first visit this week. It's been a long time since I've talked to one.
I'm also working on a healthier, more nutritous diet along with regular exercise.
I feel like I'm looking for addtional suggestions of what else I can try / some friendly advice. Its nice to not feel alone when sometimes I feel as though i'm going a little crazy. Just want to know that these feelings will pass and that I can again get back to a normal life (though what is "normal" right?).
Happy Friday!

Years ago, I won a mirrored armoire from my job. It's in my bedroom but I rarely stand in front of it. Yesterday, I had to have a dexascan done so I had to change into a gown. There was a full length mirror in the changing room. I'm aware that I gained 5 to 7 pounds over the last year from cheating on Keto but I didn't know what it looked like. It was a reality check.

"don't be a hate hole" has been one of my recent mantras which seems to be escaping my mouth more and more often. it emerges when i am faced with the endless list of chores i would rather not deal with. insurance. head lice. bureaucracy. in-laws. the list goes on and on and on and on, ad infinitum.reality checks requested. am i making sense?"ever'thin they is but loving leaves a rust on your...

I'm sorry for what you have been going through lately. I can totally relate to it though. I have been diagnosed with an anxiety disorder six years ago and have been on and off medication during that whole period. Effexor was the first antidepressant I was put on, it worked fine for me for a year or so and then my therapist had to change it. I also took buspirone for sometime for my anxiety. It did help a bit.
Tips:
-Exercise and working out are your best friends.
-Eating healthy meals and drinking adequate amounts of water help too!
-Talking to a therapist/counselor is vital.
You are not alone, you are not going crazy. It's your anxiety that's making you feel that way. Hopefully the Effexor will kick in soon.
Best,
Depression is common with anxiety, so treating the anxiety with exercise also treats the depression and this improves your well-being.
As far as boyfriend understanding, do not try to help him understand. As you change your response, your reaction, and your actions, his will change as well. He's understanding from his perspective and sometimes, that gives a better insight to what works "in the moment".
You are not alone. Best wishes.
