Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...
That vicious cycle of panicking over the fear of a panic attack is a mean and vicious loop. I've suffered panic attacks for all of my 66 years and have been in psychotherapy since 1972. That vicious cycle is still with me. The good news is that I have grown an awareness of the cycle which allows me to catch the early symptoms and ply therapy tools before the vicious cycle has a chance to escalate beyond my control. In this case, an ounce of prevention is worth a TON of cure.
Getting my anxieties of the day into writing and/or verbalizing them to trusted members of my therapy support network is one of my more important therapy tools for managing this cycle. This very forum is one of the safe places where I can do exactly that. Hope it serves you as well as it has served me.
Welcome aboard. You are not alone. Listening. . .
You've taken the important first step in writing it out.
Keep writing it out. The more you learn about how anxiety is your helper, the better you will have balance even with anxiety's help.
Panic...stop, pause, breathe. Thoughts...stop, pause, breathe. Gentle movements of hands to help reset your balance naturally as you breathe calm.
Instead of 'thinking', do 'thinking'. It will help you find what works best when.
The fear of having another panic attack is common with anxiety disorder. It can cause avoidance of places or things that we fear we might have a panic attack again.
I go through this a lot, too. You are not alone.
I am currently reading a newer released book called "DARE" (I think they have an app, too), which talks about challenging the panic attacks, and facing the fears. So far, it's an interesting book. I have read 50, maybe 75 or 100 books on anxiety.... before I had Internet. You can also go on YouTube, and type in "anxiety" or "panic attacks" and they have lots of free videos on there. Some are helpful. You might see something that clicks with your situation.
You are not alone. We're here to listen......
So sorry to hear of the anxiety that you are feeling. Know that you are not alone.
I am so glad to hear that you are seeking therapy. I know that getting counseling was one of the most helpful things that I did. I learned coping strategies that helped me quite a bit. I hope that a licensed counselor will be helpful for you as well.
I also found Louie Giglio's message I lift my hands to be helpful. It was helpful to know that others struggle with anxiety and also how he dealt with it.
Welcome and please let us know how you are doing.
