I do find it helpful to smile & think pleasant thoughts. I remind myself to breathe & sometimes I try to focus on a song like "Let It Be" or "Hey Jude" ... whatever works. Oh, I do take Prozac which helps a lot.

I've been diagnosed with depression with anxiety and actually function well when I can make lists and accomplish small steps towards my goals. I take effexor and valium. These worked very well until a few months ago. I slept all the time, thought it could be depression, but it did not feel like depression. Doctor ran lots of tests and found out I also have narcolepsy so I am on a new medication for excessive sleepiness.
I highly recommend a good therapist to help you work through anxiety and coping with depression because meds can only do so much and the rest has to come from you. Keep track of how you feel, take meds, modify your diet, and try lots of things to see what is going to work for you.
Good luck and God bless,
Marcia
