Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...
lately my fear is trying to get help with my anxiety, i really don't want to take medication....afraid of side effects, etc.
but i thought i might be able to find a good therapist
i have a physical exam tomorrow so was going to try and see about getting a referral or something
i over analyze things and my life feels delusional so i can relate to what you said even if that is not what you meant...LOL
To that end, I am exploring my vitamin, mineral and amino acids as well as hormone levels. Typically not tests done in a doctor's office. There is a clinic that provides this treatment but you can generally find a chiropractor or alternative wellness clinic willing to do these tests. Sometimes insurance will cover this but if not, you can shop around. I'm getting an entire panel done for $60 (My doctor's office wanted to charge $300 to test just my vitamin D).
While meds can be super expensive and can have staggering side effects at times, vitamins typically do not have side effects when taken in the proper amount. In fact, if you need vitamin D, for example, it can not only help with depression, it can also help with rashes, chronic pain, heart disease, cancer prevention...
And because you're addressing the root cause, not just the symptoms, you can treat all of the issues related to low vitamins/minerals/etc.
You may want to explore this. It sometimes seems, especially with anxiety, that something ENORMOUS must be wrong and the only solution is heavy duty meds. But when we're low on certain vitamins and hormones, it can really effect our health.
You might want to get the book "The Anxiety and Phobia Workbook" by Bourne. In it, he looks at a wholistic approach to treatment rather than just meds.
With dissociation, you are not "messed up" - you are reacting to a bad situation the best way you can. There is a book called "Who Parked The Car" that can provide ideas on how to manage and live with dissociation. Here's the link and if it doesn't work you can find it on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=who+parked+the+car
