Today is day 5 of taking Lexapro. Last night i woke up around 4AM with horrible night sweats/hot flashes. I am peri menopausal but have not had hot flashes yet. I have been reading side affects of Lexapro and was wondering if night sweats or hot flashes are from the Lexapro? I also got extremely dizzy and light headed and shaky and my heart was racing a little bit. My head was also racing, like I couldn't think straight. Around 5pm it stopped but I could not get back to sleep. I am dog tired this morning! I have two friends who take Lexapro and swear by it. I know it takes a while to kick in I guess? I also take Xanax for panic attacks, .25 mg. I have been averaging maybe one of those every day or every other day. I was really tired yesterday, but no panic attack, no Xanax yesterday. Does this sleepiness/tiredness wear off after a while?

Lexapro is a lot like the other SSRI type antidepressant/antianxiety medications. Your body is adjusting to it so you're going to have side effects such as night sweats and an overall tired feeling...even with the Xanax because the dosage you're on is very low. The Lexapro side effects should diminish over time. You won't start getting the full benefit from it until about 4 weeks from now but may start feeling a little benefit in 2 weeks.

I am on lexapro and I remember some night sweats that felt like menopausal symptoms. They did go away with time. It took a few weeks though so expect more for a while! Also, for me, it took 4 to 6 weeks for the lexapro to really help. It is one of the fastest for a lot of people but not me! It did eventually help so hang in there and good luck.

The first two weeks or so for most regular anxiety meds SUCK!!! I am not on Lexapro but I am on celexa. I had the same symptoms except I knew there was no way it was pre menopause seeing that I started when I was 20 lol but I have heard that many people on Lexapro have great results with it. I actually have a Dr. appointment tomorrow to switch my meds because mine no longer work. Just keep your head up and keep pushing through those nasty night sweats and it will be so worth it!!!! :)

that's what happened to me the first 2 weeks of taking it, and i was only taking 5 or less than that. it went away after that

I am on Lexapreo and I get the sweats here and there. I usually get them in the morning. I just tell myself it is nothing new I had them the day before and I am having them now and will have the tomorrow. They are just hot flashes and they cannot hurt you.

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus).
