General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...
I have been having mild and well managed anxiety and panic attacks for about a year. Was prescribed a low dose of Ativan to take as needed. It took 10 months before the 30 pills I was prescibed were used. I went back to the Dr to get it refilled. She told me she would only give me one more Rx for another 30 pills, and if I still needed it then I should consider taking an antidepressant daily. I do not feel depressed at all. Maybe a little less motivated when my anxiety is at its worst, but I still function, am happy, etc.
The Ativan was working well, until she said I could not have anymore, now of course it is terrible. I know it is partially due to the thought of just not having it available if I need it. But am also having a lot of life stress now.
Has anyone here taken an antidepressant for anxiety? What did you take? Were there a lot of side effects? Do you still depend on a PRN med for attacks?

My therapist really knocked some sense into me last Friday about my spending. She said that there are needs and there are wants. She said that there is always going to be cheap stuff to buy, but do I need it? The answer is mostly "no". So today, I am taking back some things that I bought online at Kohl's, namely a 9 x 12 rug and a quilt for my bed. I also bought sheets that I don't need...
All of this is physical reaction to your natural reaction to events, situations, and the medication provides a temporary balance to give you a sense of calm and balance.
Your goal is to find your way to naturally reduce or increase your level to a normal balance.
Staying hydrated helps reduce anxiety's impact by providing enough liquid to allow your body to cope with the "fight or flight or freeze" reaction that sometimes overwhelms someone experiencing anxiety sensations.
Using gentle motion movements will help the physical sensations of anxiety to disperse naturally fast.
Distraction allows the breathing to go normal quickly as well.
Best wishes.
