I also had a husband who traveled a lot and I was SO freaked out when he had to head out. What worked for me was to really develop my own life and find other safe people.
When you have anxiety, if you're like me anyway, you have one or two people who you consider safe. So when they're away it's like a child without their security blanket and it feels pretty awful.
If you can work part time - even as a volunteer - it can help. You develop a group of people you see regularly and get to be friends with some of them. And you have meaningful work. Whether you can work or not, if you can develop a few hobbies that helps too - pottery, knitting, yoga, gardening - something to look forward to. And rounding it out, if you can join a group like a book club, knitting circle, art class, exercise group, etc. - something where you see the same people week after week - it gives you a sense of continuity.
Some sort of community is also helpful - whether that's a community of faith or neighborhood group or that sort of thing.
Keep up with your activities even when your husband is home. There's a tendency to be available 24/7 when they're home and then just sit and wait when they're away. It's important for you to have your own life. It'll help a lot.
I use the past tense when I refer to my husband because I realized when he was home, he was not a very nice person and I was better off on my own.
