Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...
I'm a 46 year tech vet who wonders if all the new protocols of connectivity are providing their own anxiety triggers culture wide. Like texting. . . A half hour delay has acquired a whole new meaning with texting and software connections that are measured in picoseconds. Those are measures that are still brand new on the cultural scale.
Butttttaaa. . . Just guessing. . .
I mostly wanted to welcome you to DS and send hopes that you will feel free and comfortable to sort through your own theories here.
My first thought on this is that perhaps you are bringing insecurities from your last relationship into this one?
Maybe you are worried anxious over history repeating itself, perhaps there was issues in your last relationship?
The best advice I can give is to openly discuss any insecurities with your current partner. If you feel your partners behaviour is giving you genuine cause for concern this needs to be adressed, however if you feel this is something you need to work on yourself this will only happen over time with self love and a build of self esteem. Above all- you deserve to be treated with respect and be in an equal relationship.
Hope this helps.
I am in my first relationship. I get the same feelings you do when my partner doesn't text me back in time, or takes a few hours to reply. I start to get irrational thoughts, and it's difficult to calm those thoughts down. I usually start by telling myself that I trust my partner enough to know that I don't need to worry. Eventually they will respond to you if they care enough to. If they don't, then the relationship isn't worth it. Just take your time with this relationship, and don't forget to take care of yourself, and don't rely too much on this person.
People are busy. They can't always text back right away. There's a million reasons why he doesn't text you back immediately, but I am fairly certain it has nothing to do with you personally.
Leave technology out of the guessing.
In other words, face to face communication is best in working through certain thought processes, however, in a new relationship, take time to just enjoy the pleasure of being in each other's company.
Technology has changed communication, and not always for the benefit of people. It does great for business.
For personal, it's chaos as different perspectives, different meanings for same/similar words, and experience memory can all create problems where before technology a simple face to face conversation cleared it up in seconds.
You need to love yourself just as you are, and be willing to be kind to your feelings, write them out, and keep them safe and private, and work on the process to help you feel stronger, better, and more comfortable with your self in any relationship.
Best wishes!
