I sometimes get a tightness in my throat that feels like a 'phlegm ball' which can make it hard to breathe, so i end up trying to constantly clear my throat and take deep breaths. Its annoying as fuck, esp when yr trying to be quiet!

You may have something physical that should be treated (sleep apnea?). All I know from experience is that I clear my throat all the time in public because I feel tense and my throat constricts and feels like I've got a pill or a wad of food stuck. I am getting much better, though, so it is possible to improve if you change your mindset and lifestyle to deal with old pain and reduce stress. I really think you should see a doctor, though, cause it sounds just like sleep apnea.

I suffered from this also.I wouldnt go any where without my bottle of water.I was convinced I was going to choke to death.I went to the ER twice and then to a throat specialist and finally I was diagnosed with anxiety and Thank the Lord I am responding to Lexapro.I do not carry my water with me all the time. But I still havent ate at a restaraunt yet.I still get panicky thinking I might choke.I also woke up in the middle of the night choking and gasping for air.

The last couple of nights I have to keep on swallowing my saliva because I thought I was going to drool or choke on it, I haven't been able to get to sleep for a couple of hours (after I got in bed) because of this. Also I have woke up one time (that I know of) gasping for air. I have sleeping pills and when I take them I don't notice these symptoms.
