General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. I have been battling severe anxiety, panic attacks and depression for a couple years now on my own. I finally decided i just need to be on something right now and 12 days ago my DR. started me on 10mg. a day of Paxil. I remember taking Paxil about 11 years ago for a short time without any problems. Well for a couple days now i have been feeling anxious, panicky and very depressed. Of course i get like this that's why i sought help, but i feel really nervous like maybe the medicine is making me worse! I was wondering is it to soon to feel better yet? Or could it be the Meds. making me feel worse? I'm just not sure what to expect. I also haven't gotten any physical side effects yet either, could it be to early for that to? Thanks anyone with some experience taking anti depressents could you Plz. help me???

Most antidepressants take 3-6 weeks to buildup to a therapeutic level. However, I don't believe the medication is making you worse. You may not experience any side effects at all ! :) However, if you do and you can tolerate them, tell your physician. They usually go away after 3 weeks. I hope this helps to ease your mind. If you don't feel better in the next couple of days, call your doctor just to be sure. Good luck! hugs

renee1979, Everyone's body is different so it is difficult to say what one person will get another will get. It took me a long time for the antidepressant that I am on to kick in. I get bad side effects whenever I increase or decrease my dosage i.e. Flu like symptoms, hot flushes etc. Your lucky if your not getting side effects and it may take more time for yours to kick in. I know it's easy to say but try not to stress as Depression feeds off it and makes it worse. Try some deep breathing and try to relax as much as possible. Good Luck and keep us updated.

As Paxil(paroxetine) is a SSRI(selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor), it acts on serotonin receptors in the brain, keeping serotonin in the neurotransmitter synapse longer. This stimulation of serotonin in some can create agitation, tremors, increased anxiety. In most cases it should pass as you adjust to the medication. SSRI/SNRIstake about four to six weeks to reach full therapeutic effect. 10 mg. is a relatively small dose, a starter dose if you will, and your doctor probably started you at this dose so you would not have severe side effects. Some have what's called a 'paradoxical effect', with the medication causing anxiety and panic to shoot through the roof instead of mitigating it. If these symptoms do not subside in at least week two or three, consult your doctor. There are many SSRIs out there, and if you fail Paxil, it may just be a matter of finding one that works for you without exacerbating anxiety while it takes effect. Zoloft(sertraline) is a milder SSRI than Paxil, and is the number one SSRI prescribed for anxiety, panic disorder, agoraphobia and social phobia. It is notassociated with weight gain and can also be started in low doses and titrated to therapeutic dose. Good luck and take care.

Hello. I have anxiety and depression also. I took Paxil about 8 years ago. I can't exactly remeber what it did, I just remember it made me worse and I will never take it again. I am on Buspar and Amitriptyline and they seem to be working so far. I get more depressed in the winter too, but since being on these meds my depresion hasn't gotten worse. Hope this helps!!!

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
