Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...
is being hungry all the time a symptom of anxiety? I kind of feel like I've been like that my whole life, but then again I never over-ate as a kid, and was skinny. but I'd have friends who were skinnier, who when I went over to their houses they would be like "let's weigh ourselves!!" um, can we not? like, what's fun about that? of course, they always weighed less, but then again probably cuz I was always taller, and healthier, more active, etc., so probably had more muscle. of course, didn't think about that at the time. my parents were health nuts, and my dad would always make me eat breakfast, even when I was't hungry. I kind of wonder if that's why I HAVE to eat now, bc of being used to or programmed to. but my friends wouldn't even eat breakfast. that would make me feel like even more of a pig. but again, maybe it's from being forced to eat even when I wasn't hungry. :( but my friends weren't as healthy, would drink pop, which I wasn't allowed to have most of the time. they weren't into sports or exercising like I was. and from what I've seen on FB (since we haven't been friends since then), they're no longer the skinny ones, lol. anyway...not sure what the point was there, lol but...it seems like all I want to do is eat. as soon as I get up, I'm hungry. then once I eat, I'm tired, and just wanna go back to bed. so maybe I just have to eat so I get tired and can escape again??? I should exercise, that's what my dad keeps telling me, but...I get sick of being around cars and the noise of outside, but with gyms closed (and I never liked them anyway, but at least you don't have to deal w/cars and random ppl), it's hard not to just stay at home and eat even more...

I did the dumbest thing today. I charged my earbuds, unplugged the block and put the block in my little bag instead of the earbuds. I wasn't happy about that when I got to the gym. What a dummy!

And also, if you haven't eaten much one day, a drop in blood sugar (by not eating for several hours) can mimic signs of anxiety. And eating something will make you feel better if you hadn't eaten in many hours.
I hear you on the exercising. I exercise at home. Inside. For cardio, I just kind of dance around the living room while watching TV, with or without music, lol. I march in place, do a light jog around. Then I get on the floor, put down some kind of mat on the floor, and do abs, leg lifts, etc. I also have light dumb bells to work arms. Do boxing motions such as punching, and twisting at the waist (slowly) while doing punching motions.
You don't even have to leave your house to do some exercising. Try it. I think you will feel better all around mentally and physically from exercising.
1) acting on the early warning signs can head off anxiety escalation.
2) balanced nutrition and exercise are critical to overall wellness
3) sometimes ya gotta say, "WTF" and go for your comfort of choice. Skipping an occasional meal isn't gonna hurt me any more than occasionally taking comfort in your favorite food and going for a comfort snooze.
Taking the time to drink liquid often helps to reduce the active anxiety associated with this sensation.
As mentioned above, all of these are excellent ways to view food, exercise, sleep, and your well-being.
Eating breakfast is important to break the fast. However, for some people, it's that first glass of water, that counts for their morning wake-up.
Finding the balance of food and exercise that works for you is figuring out how much you really want to eat (we used three sizes of plates, cups, bowls to determine our small, medium, and large servings, and 1/2 cup and 1 cup to measure servings for reference).
Once we did the portion section, it was easier to see what I was eating when, where, how, who, what, and why. I measured and rated my anxiety.
I stopped being hungry all the time after this homework assignment. I still experience the "hungry" sensation and I work through the anxiety doing calming and gentle motion.
Best wishes as you find your better balance.
Find new ways to destress.
It’s all chemistry. Your thoughts cause your brain to release certain chemicals. I. E., happy thoughts release dopamine which your body gets used to and ends up craving more. Some people seem incessantly happy for no reason that they can think of other thn,” idk, Im just happy”. Lol
Some people develop the habit of pessimism and their body gets used to the chemical associated with that and before long, they appear in a slump they cant seem to get out of.
Joy can be cultivated. Stress can be managed. Find new ways to cope with stress. Counselling helps a lot with deep rooted issues. It can even bring forth issues you didnt realize you were dealing with on a sub concious level.
In this way, you can learn to master your body by first learning ti master your thoughts. It’s not mind over matter, but chemistry. Take care of your soul (mind, emotions), your body will follow suit.
arfie - I wish I could not eat, like some ppl. I don't know how they do it. I just can't function, and feel like screaming at everyone if I don't. maybe that's why I can never lose much weight, lol. but then again I don't gain much either, so...maybe the eating is just keeping my metabolism "regular"?
I do think exercise is the issue, even though when I was more active, that just seemed to make me hungrier. but I was a lot more active when I was younger, and in college I took every kind of exercise class, it was so fun. I think one reason I stopped exercising was, it was hard to find ppl to do things with, and it got old doing it by myself all the time. I'd try dating, trying to find someone like me, but as usual, couldn't find someone who liked exercising. or if they did, they still just wanted "dates" to be the typical at home, or out...so it was hard to find someone to exercise with, and I guess that just made me more depressed, cuz I can never find anyone like me, or who's good for me. so I guess that's why I just stayed at home, and then after years of not doing anything, trying to makes me feel like I'm gonna have a heart attack, and then I get exhausted and just wanna sit or lay down. :(
I do think exercising (how about walking?) is good all around for your physical and mental well-being. It doesn't necessarily make you more hungry. Just have to watch what you eat (ha ha, easier said than done, I know!). Exercising helps with anxiety, depression... and it makes you feel good, raising self esteem, sense of accomplishment.
Give it a try :) I suggested some things in my post above. I just exercise in front of the TV. I'll do a couple minutes while I'm waiting for the microwave to finish boiling a cup of water... I'll do some dancing around during commercial breaks,. etc. It can be fun... try it :)
