So last week I saw my therapist and she informed me that her and my med nurse were going to another practice. I am due a refill on my Seroquel wish was turn into pharmacy last Thursday. Pharmacy informs me that my med nurse is not approved for medicaid Which I already knew from last month. A doctor at their office has to sign it. Today I call pharmacy to find out whats going on and find out the doctor at the office I have been going to has left and they have no medical director or doctor that can sign my script. I run out after today. So I called the doctor office and told them if I can not get my script and go through withdrawal I will sue them,They said they can understand that. Anyway I call my family doctor and the nurse that answered phone said he will not prescribe it. So I wait awhile and call back and talk to a lady I know in there and she says he will write it once but then I have to find new psychiatrist. So I have appointment with him tomorrow . I called the new place my therapist is going to and I have to go though their intake process. So I left message with intake person and I am waiting for call back. This is just very frustrating.Thanks for letting me rant.

I am sorry to hear that. I get quite frustrated by how doctors handle prescriptions for mental health and pain meds. It's like the pain docs automatically assume that everybody is merely drug seeking and the psychiatrists seem to feel like a patient can't be trusted with anything beyond a single refill. (I've been in the same boat.)

I call that irresponsible planning on behalf of the practice. If they knew the providers were leaving, the patients should have been given adequate notice so refills could be planned accordingly.

Too bad you have to go through the intake process all over again at the new office. Maybe the trick is to drive the patients crazy enough to ensure repeat business. JUST KIDDING! :)

Thank God you are able to get your prescription refilled. I don't understand any doctor that will allow a patient to go cold turkey on any medication. And some can be dangerous. Do these doctors actually go to school anymore? Hugs GB

Thanks all. Did not get call back from new place today. If they don't call by 1pm tomorrow I'll be looking elsewhere. I would like a doctors office that returns your call in a promptly. This is craziness.

Sounds like you did a really good job advocating for yourself.

It makes me angry that people who are supposed to care for us - or at least be our partners in health - can be so dismissive and irresponsible.

Good for you for standing up for yourself. It's disappointing and also scary when doctors do that.

Anything to complicate your already complicated life. Been there with a different disorder but felt the same about the medical community as you do now. Terrible how you have to keep calling to get the attention you need.

I had a similar experience a few years ago. My Dr. just up at left. No notice, no goodbye. Nothing. Phone numbers switched off. So I tried to find someone new but that was to much so I just gave up and had to quit cold turkey.

interestingly enough, today I received a letter from the community health clinic where I see a psychiatrist. The letter informed me that if I didn't pay my bill or make arrangements, I would be cut off on October 31.

The letter outlined that after that date, they had no obligation to acknowledge refills, etc., and that extended to any medications that a patient would need to "taper off "of.

In my situation, I was told to wait on paying my bill because they wanted to refile claims with my new insurance, so it wasn't me being negligent, just miscommunication.

It makes me wonder if patients with other kinds of illnesses receive similar treatment?? Kinda makes you wonder.
