I am a big proponent of Cognitive Behavioral therapy it is so helpful. It takes awhile to work and it is sometimes unpleasant work you have to do with the therapist but they work slowly and a good therapist shouldn't push you beyond your limit.
I hope this helps! HUGS. Also what helped me through bad times before I went to therapy was distraction. Stupid cat videos, cleaning the house, watching comedy TV.
Other than CBT, I've found having books and a text to speech book reader on my phone to be indispensable for breaking a cycle of bad thought. I just pull out my phone whether in the car, out shopping or whatever, put my book on and concentrate on the book. All the annoying background noise in my head is gone in minutes. If I'm in a store or someplace I don't want to annoy others, I'll use just one side of the set of earphones so the other ear can pick up anything I need to hear in the store. In the car or if I'm out for a walk I just let it blare out loud. It's great, I used to miss my books due to lack of time, now I'm back to getting a book finished every 7 to 10 days. Love my books I do.
