Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...
I don't usually get the white coat thing but my husband and MIL both do. His doctor had even mentioned possibly putting him on BP meds but upon seeing the results of his EKG and blood test results he realized my husband just panics at the doctor's office.
As for the BP, my BP always goes up when I go to the doctor. It usually runs around 115/70's, but during my doctor appts it goes up to 120's/80's.
It is sad that we cannot have much confidence in these doctors. I am to the point where I don't even want to go anymore. They contribute EVERYTHING to anxiety and it gets so frustrating.
Try not to worry, I don't really see anything for you to be worried about. Dizziness is a BIG symptom of anxiety, so don't let it get the best of you. Besides, if you have a sinus infection, more than likely that is the cause. I have had dizziness on and off for 4 years and I am still here and doing fine.
I'm on a relatively mild one "Chlortrimeton." My Dr prescribed Nasonex spray (decongestant) to help relieve the sinus congestion -- I use it occasionally -- and that often helps with relieving the dizziness, too. I use a Neti Pot, not as often as I should, but it's supposed to help a great deal with sinus problems. There's a general forum on "Allergies" here at DS that is helpful, if you're looking for advice.
As to the high BP -- I hate when I have to go to the Dr, because they used to wind up focusing on my blood pressure when I'm there for something else! I'm still afraid that they will, although to be fair, the past couple of visits no one has said anything.
I'm my worst critic. My BP spikes to 140/90. At home, it ranges from 110/70 - 135/79. So perhaps I'm prehypertensive. But again, my current Dr has not mentioned putting me on BP medication yet.
A couple of questions: If you're that anxious, would you consider taking an anti-anxiety medication prior to the appointment? I have a dreaded Dr. appointment tomorrow and that's my plan.
Do you smoke? I ask because when I smoked, my BP would shoot through the roof, and my sinus infections were painful and dramatic. I quit smoking in 2010 and the fact is: my BP is now within normal range (and when it spikes at the Drs, it's not outrageous) and the sinus problems are less dramatic.
I'm sure I sound calm as I write all this, but I'm a wreck when I go to the Dr.. So I do relate to your concerns.
My goal for tomorrow is to take a journal along with me, so while I'm in the waiting room, I can write "stream-of-consciousness" babble in my notebook, trying to work out the agonizing and the terrified fears. And perhaps write some affirmations, too. One thing for certain: no matter what, the Dr is not going to tell me that I'm dying tomorrow. He might have concerns, but he is not going to give me that prognosis.
So I guess I can take a big sigh of relief and try to go with the flow. Slow, Deep Breaths. I will remind the Dr. first thing: "Dude, I have Anxiety. Go easy with me."
