Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...
After decades of psychotherapy, my social anxiety STILL causes me to do allot of rejecting before I can be rejected. My low self-esteem and mistrust of the human species convince me that I never will fit in anywhere and rejecting is less painful than being rejected. At least I have a modicum of control when I do the rejecting. Or? ? ? At least that is what I tell myself.
The good news is that I've gotten much better about catching myself and turning things around before any permanent damage is done.
I don't see the point in telling the people I am feeling the urge to reject about this psycho tick, either. Early on, I believe it is more than a prospective friend should be asked to assimilate. Nor do I repress or deny the urge. I bring the confusion to my therapy support network for full disclosure and sorting with people who have the insider view of what I am going through.
DS is one of the nodes on my psychotherapy network. I hope you'll feel safe to go into more detail here. You are not alone.
Welcome aboard.
You've taken the important first step in writing it out.
Meeting new people and talking to new people is an unknown experience.
Taking the time to experience and then stepping back to review the things that make you uncomfortable is a positive way to sort through the thoughts, feelings, emotions, and words associated with the experience.
Leaving a group is normal when it does not fit what you are looking for. Not saying anything as you leave is normal. It's not about them, it's your choice.
What do you do when you meet new people? You say hello, use general words to share words, you listen, observe, and learn more about them. You talk with new people in that moment.
Learning how anxiety is natural and is a part of your thinking, is a good way to keep yourself in balance as you grow more comfortable in experiencing unknown moments, knowing you can step back, stop, pause, and breathe, before going on.
Best wishes as you find your better balance.
