General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. I have been on Nortryptiline and clonazepam for a few years and was doing very well. But, the last month I have been having a lot of anxiety and then depression. Dr started me on citalopram on Wed. I have taken three doses of 5mg (very sensitive to meds). The first day I was so tired and the second day was better. Today I was down again and I came home from work and took a nap. I woke up and I am freezing and soooo agitated. I don't want to take this anymore!!! Anyone have any help for me?????????

call your dr if you can-if you don't like the way something feels then often they can work with you-some meds like that one take some time to get used to and then with some people they just can't tolerate them-my doc switched me from zanax to the zanax xr and i felt like i was dying-i called my dr and they switched me back-only you can tell if you are willing to wait it out to see if you acclimate to it or not-sorry i couldn't be more helpful

Its just how can you deal with the side effects???? Just how much do you all tolerate before you give up on the med???

i was on citalopram for a while last year, when i started on it, and every time they increased the dose i suffered from major anxiety and headaches for about the first week or two, but then it eased off and actually my anxiety levels improved slightly. So maybe give it a few more days before throwing the towel in. I know how you feel though, as have recently started taking antabuse and the side effects of that were soooo horrible at first, i hated it and really wanted to stop, but my control freak husband wouldn't let me, and again, it does seem to have got better with time. Good luck whichever way you go :)

Thank you! I am feeling better right now but scared to take it in the morning. I took my dose of clonazepam about an hour ago and I don't know if that calmed things down or what but I am more at peace. It is kinda funny how the two responses I have tonight both have cats for their profile pics. My husband works a week on and a week off and this is his week to work so it is me and my cat to deal with my mental state.

I love citalopram. I have weaned off it now ( about 2 months ago) and i have experienced anxiety again. I think the meds calmed me down but my own stupidty says i dont want to rely on them. If i need to go back on them then i will. I have a fear of meds, i hate pills but I will go back on them as soon as I carnt cope anymore. Keep in there, all side affects are usually tempory and in the liong term it might benfefit you. Good luck x
