Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. Me too...I just wonder if it really is helpful. The only place by me that has meetings is working on getting a new office for the sessions and they won't have them again for another month or so. The woman I spoke with said that she has had the program running for 17 years and has seen a lot of success stories. I am just trying to think of every way possible that I can battle this!!

I have been to group therapy but personally found it increased my anxiety becasue I had to talk aboput my anxiety in front of a bunch of strangers. I don't like talking in front of groups (about8or9 in the group) but some people were really able to just let it all out. I think it's an individual preference. For me, it didn't work and I dropped out because of the increased anxiety it caused.

That's sorta what I was afraid of Nursey4...I have found that just seeing a therapist one-on-one has made an increase in my anxiety. I supposed because I am letting go of a lot of things I kept pent-up inside for so long. In the long run, it will be beneficial to get these things off of my chest, but for now, it's really uncomfortable, so I am looking for any possible route of help.

I do attend group therapy, although not for anxiety. Group therapy does not have to be a commitment, but I would reccommend to anyone who deals with a mental illness to try it. If it's too much to handle, or you don't like it, you don't have to return. But if you give it a good, strong effort, you may find it very valuable to you as I have. You may be anxious to talk to strangers, but the thing is - they are all dealing with the exact same thing as you. There is no judgement.

i would probably be anxious to go to group therapy but i think it would be good for me. the way i see it is if my goal is to feel less anxious around people then starting with others who can relate to my situation might be a good half-way point. if the anxiety was too much though, i probably wouldn't stay either. gotta start somewhere though.

It depends on what kind of a group. If it is one that teaches you CBT by all means join it. It will give you your life back.

Group therepy isnt too bad. If the group isnt big. It helped me back when I was just starting to deal with my anxiety, its the idea that I wasnt the only person having to deal with it, I wasnt alone in my struggle
