Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...

My grandson turns 5 this weekend. I'm hoping that will mean a family party, but. . . Just hoping. . . The pattern in recent years has been for all the grown-ups to campaign for family gatherings, then yaddah their blahs into a no-show. Yupper, Yupper, three bags full. My anxiety is escalating. Is the party likely enough to make it worth the drive back to the homestead? This time it is only a three hour drive, so it is far easier to justify than the 2 and 3 day hikes I have made to end up sitting alone, doing nothing. Still, I find myself wondering if I should yaddah my own blahs into a no-show. Ah family. . . There is no substitusky, for both better and worse. I'm pretty sure I'll go. GS and I are tight enough that I at the very least want to leave a package on his doorstep.
A long neglected psychotherapy exercise which has bubbled up with this round of psychosis is, "Giving other people whatever it is I am wishing I could get." I'm not sure where it bubbled up from. Family counseling? Anybody familiar with it?
I'm pretty sure it's not about giving grandsons a new gammy dress for their 5th birthday. . .

I haven't written in my diary on my computer since May because I thought that my computer was dying. I got away from writing but my computer is hanging in there. I think that I will start writing in it again. It's so therapeutic.

First, I hope everyone is doing well, and continuing to fight that good fight! Keep up the great work on yourselves; I'm rooting for all of you!So, I started doing therapy at the beginning of the year, when I was in my most depressed state, but with my therapist, I made big changes and steps in the right direction. But, over a month ago, she couldn't take my insurance anymore, and I had to stop...
If no one's doing anything, you could always just buy an ice cream cake, fill up balloons with water and teach the young pup the real way to play baseball?? (Hitting the balloons as though they're balls?)
IDK...just a thought. Do I get any change back if my ideas don't work out?
As for whether there is a point to hoping for ice cream cake, etc. . . Sigh. . . Who knows what the parental units will allow. One of life's eternal mysteries. . . Why aren't the parents who call me, "Mom" any easier to understand or predict than my own parents were?
Whether your ideas work out, or not, how much change do you want back? It's the spirit that counts.
Update:
The middle-agers in the family are still communicating like corporate drones wishing they didn't have to work for a living, but Hubs did manage to get a call through to the grandson's father and a commitment to bringing his nuclear family tomorrow afternoon. I'm taking it on faith that the party will happen and shopping accordingly, taking care to shop on the light side in case the recent patterns hold true and they just leave us hanging, party favors and all.
I s'pose the element I might wish for is compassionate faith that I don't break promises *just* to inconvenience the old folks. I shouldn't take it personal if this party falls through, too, and take it on faith that Mom and Dad are doing the best they can with what they have to work with.
Maybe. . . Sorting. . .
I'm hoping that it manages to all come together.
As I was stringing the balloon banner, praying it wouldn't just serve as an unhappy reminder later, I received a text from the father unit asking if we had stocked root beer. The birthday boy was asking for some.
"No root beer," I responded, "but I have a good selection of other flavors. Is it worth a special trip?"
Daddy texted back, "GS very cutely said yes. It's my birthday. And hot dogs?"
Hubs was as relieved as I was and eagerly responded, "I'll make the run."
Still plenty of time for one of Mother's infamous last minute plan changes, but it's looking good. Ninja Turtle theme. Cowabunga!!!
Thanks all for the support.
