Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...
Hello, have been having a very rough week. Saw a couple videos of dogs being attacked, which has caused me extreme emotional distress. I have had major panic attacks and have not been able to focus on anything else. My mind just keeps reliving and replaying horrible acts over and over. I love dogs, and apparently this is a major emotional trigger for me. Most disturbing things in the news don't effect me, but this did.
I went to the urgent care yesterday, and got some Lorazapam for temporary relief. It does help some, but still misearable. I have a appt with an online therapist for Friday and a doctor on the 4th, but my heart just feels broken inside.
How do I stop replaying this horror in my head? The fact that there are people out there that hurt animals for fun is sickening and destroying me inside. The videos being available online seem to haunt me, even if I didn't watch them. Oh man this is bad, and happy holidays.

I haven't written in my diary on my computer since May because I thought that my computer was dying. I got away from writing but my computer is hanging in there. I think that I will start writing in it again. It's so therapeutic.

Years ago, I won a mirrored armoire from my job. It's in my bedroom but I rarely stand in front of it. Yesterday, I had to have a dexascan done so I had to change into a gown. There was a full length mirror in the changing room. I'm aware that I gained 5 to 7 pounds over the last year from cheating on Keto but I didn't know what it looked like. It was a reality check.
does it help any to know that i carry a great admiration for your reaction? i have done enough animal rescue work to know more about the results of animal torture than the entertainment of the sport. i join you in being sickened to the depths of my soul at the socially distant knowledge of the animal torture videos, etc. i salute you for the decency to be haunted.
as for finding the eject button on the replays in my head. . .
i use the same psychotherapy tools which i use to therapute my ptsd flashbacks. i lean ever so gently into the memories and see where they take me. typically they take me to one of my psychic injuries in need of healing measures. the process is not easy to describe, nor is it a quick fix, but it does allow healing to happen. i don't get to delete the memories nor scrub the organic hard drive, but it reduces the memory to an unpleasant moment which doesn't have the power to ruin my entire day.
Writing out is the best gift you give yourself. It releases it from your mind.
When it comes to trauma, adding something positive to the image is one way to reduce the impact of the initial reaction from spiraling into overload.
Best wishes as you find your better balance.
I have had very similar issues from a very young age, and even now being an adult.
Please refrain from watching these horrible things that people do. Rather watch funny animal videos and loving animal videos.
Ther are many wonderful people who love their pets like children. Well thats because they are, I've always considered them disabled children in a way because they need us to care, feed, love and take care of them properly.
I've seen some bad stuff in my lifetime, but again I turn to more positive views.
We have the choice to see what can make us happy.
As far as people go....I, to this day don't understand the ignorance of people who have animals and don't take care of them.
But people also have children who they neglect and abuse as well.
It's a terrible thing, try to be positive and raise your voice if you ever see abuse.
In the past I had said some things to people about how I felt about the mistreatment, and I will tell you I must have looked like a crazy woman being sincerely angry. On the few occasions I did say something, the abuse stopped and or the people moved.
It's a sad world at times but try to look at positive things. Try to keep your heart safe and to keep it tender as much as possible.
My best to you, have Beautiful Christmas.
A great thing would be to volunteer at your local animal shelter. Then you can be helping the dogs there... as well as the cats, birds, etc.
But in the mean time, stay distracted with the positive, happy things in your life. Soon, those awful videos will be out of your mind. And don't watch those any more! Turn this experience into something good - such as volunteering at the animal shelter, or take in foster animals if you are able.
Don’t read or watch anything about animal cruelty. Let the memories come and go, while also creating positive experiences. Both can happen simultaneously.
