One year, we had to figure out presents for the holiday as plans switched the day before to no visitors (quarantine). We went to the store, purchased a book, a personal gift that each person wanted, something to wear, and something they need. The stockings were small items. That year, we did a lot of things different from usual tradition, and it remains a cherished memory all these years later for the grown children. I even changed the meal plan to make it easier for time.
I wish you enough for this. That's really painful, for the other family to throw drama at each holiday. Here's to you, being successful in this process!
that does sound like a memorable holiday, mid. kinda reminds me of my army years where we did a secret santa exchange of one gift to buy for a person drawn from a hat and one gift to receive. those were some of the mellowest holidays of my life.
here on the farm, our gift exchange has already happened and i promise to pull my best mule act at doing any more christmas shopping, especially not with two birthdays (9 and 6) on december 30 and january 7th.
the mother's family are drama specialists. it doesn't take much to set them into a tailspin. it's been 4 and a half years since the court settlement. the surprise is that it took them this long to flake-out. even if this is the end of their long haul, i am still glad the children will have at least some memory of their maternal family.
so far, the kids haven't even asked or mentioned the faux pas. **clink** here's to hoping i'm worrying for nothing. i do that allot.
Thank you for your service in the military! Hooah!
That kind of drama lasts a long time, and you're handling all of it with poise!
and thank you for the sorting space. yeah, i think i got this, but my confidence level is higher for the support and validation.
