Katie.....when you get the wake up jolts do you feel like you are going to stop breathing?
My friend told her husband about these jolts I was experiencing. He told me that there are various stages of sleep. Some people fall into a deep sleep to quickly missing a stage of sleep. It's common and harmless. We do not fall gradually into sleep. Due to this our subconscious "jolts" us awake. This can happen if experiencing stress as we are very tired when under stress.
It used to scare the crap out of me when I would be falling asleep then jolt but since he explained it to me it doesn't bother me any longer and it's more of an irritant than anything. I know that I'm just falling into a deep sleep to quickly and it's due to being tired because of stress.
Hope this helps :)
