Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...

I've been dealing with this awful bout of anxiety for about 2-3 months now. And each day feels like a battle. I think I get one part of it under control, and it seems like I'm worried about a whole other thing. Well I thought I was getting things under better control, and from the outside, I think I appear to not have anxiety because I act like I'm fine and feel calm. But in reality, I feel completely out of it. I feel like I can't focus on anything, I find it very hard to concentrate and my memory is awful. Is this part of anxiety? I don't think I've ever felt this out of it, like my mind is in a fog.
And I'm actually at home right now visiting family and have been here for about 2 weeks now. I was hoping I could get back on a better mental track, but I'm exactly the same. And I head back to our home in another state in about a week (we're in the military so we have to travel to visit family) and I'm scared to death b/c I have even less people out there to be around. I am really starting to feel hopeless like I'll never be back to where I was before all of this started. I just can't get it to go away. I know this sounds kind of silly, but I'm scared I have alzheimers or some type of brain degenerative disorder causing all of these symptoms of forgetfullness/loss of concentration. I'm 29, so I know it would be rare, but I physically feel like something is wrong with me. :(
My doc prescribed Lexapro for me to try since I used it years ago before I had children, but I wanted to try and beat this without meds. But now I kind of want to try it just to see if it would actually help me, since I feel convinced that I don't just have anxiety, that there's something else wrong with me. I really want to get an MRI or cat scan or something where they can look at my brain to see if something is wrong. If it was anxiety, would they be able to see that in my brain? I know how this all sounds, but I'm desparate to feel normal again and want to be able to focus and think straight. :(

I did the dumbest thing today. I charged my earbuds, unplugged the block and put the block in my little bag instead of the earbuds. I wasn't happy about that when I got to the gym. What a dummy!

Years ago, I won a mirrored armoire from my job. It's in my bedroom but I rarely stand in front of it. Yesterday, I had to have a dexascan done so I had to change into a gown. There was a full length mirror in the changing room. I'm aware that I gained 5 to 7 pounds over the last year from cheating on Keto but I didn't know what it looked like. It was a reality check.
First, being in the military gives you opportunity to try new activities, meet different people, and see different sites. When family and friends ask what we do at different places we have been to, we can say certain places we've seen, local festivals, unique traditions in main street celebrations, and people want to come visit us.
Second, if this trip home is one you anticipated to be a wonderful, happy, reconnect time, then go for it.
Third, keep a journal-a private journal, to help you see the pattern of your thoughts, actions, and feelings. Include meals, snacks, and how the kids are.
Fourth, you are normal.
Anxiety will present a lot of physical symptoms that disappear within moments after changing physical activity and reducing the chemical level that the first activity brought on. When you journal, after a few times, it will probably click in your brain that the anxiety is coming from a particular action, thought, scene, scent, or other sense being triggered into "fight or flight" mode.
I hope this helps.
You are not alone!
Mideyebrow--thank-you for reminding me to journal. It's something I said I would do a while ago and I just haven't stuck with it. It does help me sort things out better so I do need to start doing that again. And like you said, maybe I'll see a pattern of when I start feeling the anxiety and see what more of my triggers are. And thank-you for saying I'm normal, that's something I have a hard time convicing myself of, lol.
Hi Lovnmthr--so great hearing from you. You are always so positive and helpful, thanks for your comment! It makes me feel better when you say my symptoms are part of anxiety. I really felt like they were separate and that it wasn't anxiety related. And then worrying about possibly having something wrong with me makes everything worse. But I need to do what you said and keep pushing back those thoughts. It's tough though, lol, but I think I'm SLOWLY getting better at it. Thanks for your encouragement, you are awesome!
When you get that feeling remind yourself it's only a sensation....not a sympyom of anything and the less you make out of it the sooner it will go away.
Be proud of yourself for being able to travel and visit family...that is a huge accomplishment!
I love mid's idea of journaling...I found thatvsugar, caffeine and alot of carbs would make me feel more anxious and that by upping my protein and eating more veggies and drinking more water actually helped me feel less anxious.
My best to you. Know that you will not always feel this way...it is only anxiety and it can't hurt you.
