General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. Anyhow, right after surgery my endodontist prescribed Amoxicillin. An antibiotic that I had taken numerous times without any problems. Weeks after the root canal I was still in pain and went back to the endodontist. He took a look, said everything was fine and that I just needed a different antibiotic. As usual I didnt ask any questions and just assumed doctors know best. I started taking Clindamycin and had strange side effects almost immediately. My ears would hurt for about a week as if I had an ear infection. I ignored the pain, because I did not want to go back again to the endodontist. Well, after about 10 days on Clindamycin I started having bloody diarrhea. I could not keep anything down food or water. I went to the doctor and tested positive for C. diff a potentially deadly intestinal bacterial infection caused by antibiotics. So, I was put on antibiotics again to get rid of the infection caused by antibiotics. I kept having infections of the urinary tract and intestinal tract for months. It was a nightmare.
I did not read the patient information leaflet that they give you at the pharmacy and just signed for it like I usually do. Only later did I learn that Clindamycin can have severe side effects. I would have never taken it had I know about the side effects before. I learned my lesson and now I always read the patient information leaflet for anything I take. For sure, I will never again take Clindamycin. I know almost every prescription has side effects and other people probably took it and where fine, but after I did some research I found out that this particular antibiotic can be more problematic than others.
I would do some research before taking Clindamycin or ask my doctor for a different prescription. I never had any side effects from any other antibiotics before.
I am currently on Clindamycin as well . I know your fear all to well . I had the same feeling when it was first prescribed . I had to take it for my infection . What i recommend is not to take it alone , take it when someone is home with you . That way you are more comfortable .
