Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...

Is it possible suffer from anxiety without an immediate or pressing cause? For the past week or so, I've found myself feeling almost constantly anxious. My symptoms include, tightening chest/back, feeling of adrenaline, upset stomach and generalized feeling of impending badness (but with no aimed thought, just a vague feeling). I've had some personal hurdles in the past few months, but nothing that I've dwelt on negatively nor that I feel I am approaching unhealthily or without confidence.
I do know that anxiety disorders are not all emotional, and do have a genetic factor. My older brother was around my age when he started getting struck with debilitating anxiety attacks. Though his always seemed more centered around life events. I also wouldn't call my attacks debilitating.
If I distract myself, or do some deep breathing, the worst physical symptoms tend to dissipate (except some adrenaline feelings).
I'm not too worried about a physical cause, as the chest tightness is not a fixed point, and rarely near my heart.
Has this happened to anyone? At what point should I approach my doctor?
This isn't ruining my life, it's just scary that my body seems to be reacting to a stimulus I don't think is present.

Years ago, I won a mirrored armoire from my job. It's in my bedroom but I rarely stand in front of it. Yesterday, I had to have a dexascan done so I had to change into a gown. There was a full length mirror in the changing room. I'm aware that I gained 5 to 7 pounds over the last year from cheating on Keto but I didn't know what it looked like. It was a reality check.

"don't be a hate hole" has been one of my recent mantras which seems to be escaping my mouth more and more often. it emerges when i am faced with the endless list of chores i would rather not deal with. insurance. head lice. bureaucracy. in-laws. the list goes on and on and on and on, ad infinitum.reality checks requested. am i making sense?"ever'thin they is but loving leaves a rust on your...

Once I let it go, embrace it, and just work on the stuff that I know helps relieve physical pain, often the anxiety resets at a better level. Something to do with the logjam (picture logs floating in a river and stacking up, sideways, twisted in a bend or narrow spot) and taking a piece out, moving, and seeing it release naturally.
Best wishes. Good work, chiropractic motion does wonders to relieve anxiety physical symptoms.
I was diagnosed with diabetes 1.5 years ago and some of the symptoms were mimicked by anxiety.....so I had to test myself several times a day to figure out which was which. Also, I found out that diet and exercise was vitally important to combat both diabetes AND anxiety. Changing my diet alone helped lower anxiety!
I also suffer from pinched nerves and arthritis in my neck which also gave me symptoms. I now see a chiropractor twice a week. He does three to four therapies which has also given me relief :)
It's amazing how taking better care of myself has helped me get on track and relieve the anxiety.
I hope you find some relief soon.
But then again I have had severe anxiety over growth/life issues too. so I think there might be two kinds; and if your kind is not causing you actual emotional anxiety, then that's fantastic. It's not the physical discomfort I hate about anxiety attacks: it's the sheer terror, like watching the shower scene in psycho. That's the bit I hate.
